Wow. Hope you are tip top now. How did it happen? If you needed 3 months to ramp up, then it doesn't sound too good...

This morning's commute was nice. I took it easy since the road was still wet from the rain earlier. But the temp was good 61F or so. So it seems to be the last days for short sleeve jersey weather. Heard off and on rain for this week. Will proably stay with park and ride for now.

I had a wound that got badly infected, spent a week in the hospital getting IV anti-biotics, and had surgery. Not a fun way to spend the summer.

HardyWeinberg 09-27-16 10:47 AM

60F and heavy mist. Wore long sleeves, no coat, too hot.

FINALLY the cooler weather has arrived!! Saturday and Sunday saw record highs in the Memphis area. We hit 97 on Sunday. Then yesterday the high was in the 70's. 24 hour temperature difference was something like 21 degrees. Low 50's last night, and about 56 degrees this morning. I pulled out the arm warmers, and threw on my thin tights with the legs pulled up to about 3/4 length. Felt great.

Could you tell us more about the attack? It was so bad you had to escape?

He had about 4 or 5 good swoops at me. Left me frazzled. I had heard that there were a lot more at a spot a few km further on so I got scared and diverted to the train station.

There was someone a few years ago who suffered a few attacks at the hand of a crow or magpie, I can't recall. I think it was dramiscram or jrickards. Or was it arsprod...

My commute has been great I ride with one or both kids in the trailer around a nice island then take a boat to town where it begin to become a bummer. I drive around between strip mall running errands as we get settled in, and the two main roads run parallel to two major bike arterials. But at least driving is far better than Vancouver.

I have sadly found that Amazon doesn't deliver to the island we live on so we have to go to this out of the way purolator depot, or UPS. So much for useful Amazon prime. Also Canada Post won't deliver boxes larger than 1/4th of a show box here.

ZmanKC Infections suck. I have had my share of them as a result of an accident; even this weekend I had to go to a doctor to get some antibiotics. Heal well good sir.

Yes it was me. I was attacked by a red winged black bird. Here's the original thread back in june 2014:http://www.bikeforums.net/commuting/...-i-report.html

Today's commute was a nice uneventful ride, with the temp at 58f degrees and dark cloudy skies.

Phil_gretz 09-28-16 05:22 AM

Temp ~60 degrees with a bit of spritzy wind/rain. Supposed to be raining this evening, sometimes heavily. Yay? Still, Fall season riding is my favorite.

Johnny Mullet 09-28-16 05:37 AM

Chilly this morning, but still a nice ride!

KStier 09-28-16 05:49 AM

Broke out the jacket for the first time in a long time...also, turning forty in less than a month so broke out a new bike...giant tcx advanced sx, single chainring sram cross/gravel bike but no appreciable difference in commute time this morning. Definitely loving the 40c tires, less air pressure and more confident/softer overall ride.

esmith2039 09-28-16 05:50 AM

Warmer than I expected! First day in new office so have to start carrying the bike one floor of stairs. Tomorrow is supposed to be cold!

dcb23 09-28-16 06:09 AM

Was a pleasant drizzly commute...arrived to a fire alarm at the building and an hour+ wait to get in.

jrickards 09-28-16 06:11 AM

Drove in today and at 7:15am, the sun is just about to pop up over the horizon but that means that parts of the road are dark so that cyclist wearing black pants/tights and a dark top with no lights or reflectors/reflective bits was not seen until I was too close for comfort (10 m/yd) along that busy road.

Please people, don't be like that guy this morning, make it easy for drivers to see you.

Have a great (and safe) day!!

Do to upcoming commitments with customers and off-site visits, this is my last ride of the month. As it was, to ride today, I had to time it perfectly in my effort to dodge the thunderstorm. I only did so-so on that though, beating the worst of the storm by about 15 minutes, but still getting caught in a fairly nice rain shower. Still---it was well worth the risk.

arsprod 09-28-16 07:10 AM

57F, steady rain, and headwind. It was so dreary this morning our dogs didn't even get up

Wolfhaven 09-28-16 07:25 AM

Warmer than I expected with 53 but very humid and the roads were still wet from overnight rain. Took the bike without fenders and stashed my rain gear in the garage since the weather terrorists say no rain. Rethinking my choices now. Angry looking sky as the sunrise creeped upward. Nasty, grey to black clouds. Battled a headwind the whole way too. Been a few days since I biked so it just felt good to be back on the bike again.

edited to add: We don't have magpies in this area. I've never seen one here until last weekend, spotted 2 on a backroad in northern Minnesota. Seen them all over when I lived in Idaho but never here.

KCBikeCommuter 09-28-16 07:34 AM

61-degrees and absolutely beautiful for the commute this morning! Even had a tailwind.

My last ride of the month will be Friday.

A pretty good ride this morning. Foggy to start with as it's just still really humid here. Temps at 66 aren't bad, but I'm still quite damp when I get to work.

Nice. 48F, sunny.

noglider 09-28-16 10:04 AM

I stayed home from work yesterday with a sore throat. I'm still home.

I made the mistake of going to my weekly singing rehearsal last night, thinking I was sufficiently recovered. It was exhausting. It was the sitting and trying to sing that was hard. The trip 10-mile round-trip by bike was easy. The air was dry, the air pressure was high, and the winds were low. It was a beautiful evening.

essiemyra 09-29-16 04:38 AM

A very nice uneventful commute this morning. The temp was 52f degrees with clear dark skies and stars though no moon.

mgw4jc 09-29-16 06:12 AM

The weather lady on the news this morning promised that today is the last warm, humid day. The cold front has been slowly making its way across the southeast and should reach us tonight.

Runkeeper, which I occasionally use to track my rides (in addition to GPS watch), told me I had my fastest average speed today at 17.12mph. Not bad considering I had to stop for traffic a couple of times.

Wolfhaven 09-29-16 06:38 AM

I've got a couple regular cars that pass me that have started to wave and honk after they pass. Friendly wave, not the middle finger type... I think...

50, calm but a bit humid yet. Things haven't really been dry around here for weeks. Bridge construction has the highway closed for the day so very little traffic as I headed into town. New route has been kind of a nice change. Not really into riding through a neighborhood stretch with all the background "clutter" that I can get lost in. Plus side, I stopped at the grocery store for some fruit on my way in this morning. May become a regular stop on the way home for a few groceries here and there.

Been trying out some new underarmour wicking layers. Kinda liking the new materials for staying dryer and warm in these mild to cool temps.

jrickards 09-29-16 06:46 AM

Cool (10C/59F), overcast with a slight breeze but a comfortable temperature to ride in. Sunny and 22C/72F for the ride home, that'll be nice too.

Tundra_Man 09-29-16 07:13 AM

Today marks my 150th consecutive bicycle commute to work. The last time I drove was February 10th.

I had 150 as a goal last year, and got to 148 when we had a blizzard with 17 inches of snow. I tried to ride that day but only made it 1/4 mile in 1/2 hour before I gave up, turned around and drove my truck. This year I started my streak earlier so snow wasn't a factor (at least in the latter half!)

Now I'm going to shoot for 200 straight. Barring anything unforeseen, I will hit that mark on Dec 14th.

ptempel 09-29-16 07:56 AM

It was a slightly windy 61F this morning. I dressed for a little cooler weather by using a baselayer and knee covers. I felt nice and toasty after warming up on the Fort Lee Rd hill. I recently replaced my wheels with the same ones from Velomine (Velocity A23 with Origin 8/Formula hubs for Campy). The NDS spakes are starting to come loose like the previous pair. So will need to get my hands on some Loctite 222 purple for the spoke threads.

groovestew 09-29-16 08:36 AM

Cold enough to see my breath (or maybe I need to make an appointment with the dentist?)

KCBikeCommuter 09-29-16 08:36 AM

Temperature was around 70F/21C for the commute last night, but a solid headwind all the way home. This morning was around 50F/10C and light winds. I actually saw 5 other bicycle commuters on my commute to work. That may be a record... at least that I've witnessed during a single commute! The beautiful weather we've had this week is getting folks out on their bikes!

arsprod 09-29-16 09:24 AM

Fall is definitely here! Low 50's this morning, ride in is now dark, and the temps for evening rides home aren't much different than morning temps. Time to start paying attention to wet leaves!
