Woah! Cold. Long pants, long sleeve shirt, gloves, and a cap under my helmet. This is the first time I've come to work in long pants since April or maybe May.

I rode a 200k brevet yesterday, and it kinda knocked the stuffing out of me, which is not unusual. Sometimes when I ride a century on Sunday, I'm so slow on Monday that I miss my train. So today I made a point of leaving a little early. Nonetheless, when I got to the station, the train was already there, and I hustled... got to the platform just as the train was pulling out. Looked at my cell phone for the time... ooops. I was seven minutes early, and that was the local train I'd just missed. The express came in and left on time, with me in it.

Ha! That one took me a second. Love it.

Wet wet wet. I don't often have to start out in rain. I tried leaving a few minutes later than normal hoping it would clear out, but it didn't. It stopped about 2 miles from the office, which was nice so I could get a little wind drying out before getting there.

Heavy clouds this morning but cooler temperatures, lower humidity and no rain. I'll take that. Our weather is supposed to be very "unsettled" this week, with possible rain almost every day but at least it has cooled off. I am getting sick of hot, humid weather. Saturday, I rode 76 miles with some friends and it was my toughest ride of the year due to temperatures in the 90s and very high humidity. One of my friends called his wife to pick him up at about the 50-mile point as the heat was making him feel sick. I ended up cutting my ride about 5 miles short just to stop the misery.

48-degrees as I left the house this morning. Felt awesome!!! Especially after being off the bike all last week for a business trip.

HardyWeinberg 09-26-16 09:16 AM

Drove; too much work to do to have time to ride home in the afternoon to meet the older kid and take him to the dentist. Although I do hope to bike to the dentist with him.

Should have worn a warmer shirt, but otherwise, it was a pleasant commute.

TheNormanRider 09-26-16 10:12 AM

62 degrees this morning - that's a little chilly for me. Took about 3 or 4 miles till I was warm and able to enjoy the ride. Finally got the saddle tightened down enough that it doesn't sink anymore while riding. Passed 2 other commuters; always glad to know others in my town are riding. No rain in the forecast this week, so I should be able to easily put in 100+ miles on the ebike by the end of Friday.

Tundra_Man 09-26-16 10:50 AM

For some reason I woke up a little before 3 AM last night and never did go back to sleep. Had my alarm set for 5:30, but got out of bed at 4:50. I figured if I did manage to fall asleep in that last half hour I probably would feel worse than if I just stayed up.

So as a result I was running ahead of schedule this morning. Went out for a 5 mile run. It was about 45 degrees, humid and pretty windy which made things quite chilly.

Got back to the house and showered/dressed. Still had 25 minutes before I needed to leave for work, so I sat down in my chair. Sure enough, I fell asleep. Woke up 10 minutes past when I was supposed to leave the house. Hopped on the bike and rode to work, along with all the other drivers who had left late and now were in panic mode.

Rode straight into the wind. Hopefully it won't shift and I'll get a push on the way home.

was getting ready to ride to work this morning and heard rain... sure enough quick rain shower and looked at the radar and said I am going to continue getting ready and ride anyway. 63F spitting random rain drops here and there but not a bad ride.

kind of tapering down this week in preparation for my ride across NC Banner Elk to Atlantic beach next week.

Was not too bad. But I did the park and ride so dressed for 56F (city) as opposed to 48F (Bloomfield).

Congrats on the brevet. I never get more than 1h 30m to 1h 45m ride time in one session nowadays. So my endurance is probably crappy. Where in NJ are you? Central?

I catch the train at Hamilton, so... yeah, that's central NJ. You?

I'm north in Bloomfield (between Montclair and Newark). The Montclair-Boonton Line is my train. But I don't really use it much since starting the cyclecommute about three years ago. I see that Hamilton is on the Northeast Corridor Line. You get far better service than I do. :)

I left much later than rhm, so by the time I got on the streets, the temperature was in the 60s. I wore shorts and a polo shirt.

My Raleigh International, my usual commuting bike, broke a spoke on Friday, so I rode my Bianchi Volpe for the first time in a long time. It doesn't fit me as well, though I'm not sure how. My foot cramped in the way it had been troubling me for years, and I worked that out on the Raleigh. I guess I should so some measurements.

ZmanKC 09-26-16 01:20 PM

Today was my first commute since June 16th when I was hit by a car on my way home from work.

Johnny Mullet 09-26-16 06:25 PM

Got a rear mounted action cam on my bike and been testing it out. Here is my ride home Saturday after work.

cdonges 09-26-16 07:42 PM

Was feeling great until I got attacked by a few magpies so I got the train part of the way. Did a lap of the city otherwise I would have been early to work.

Popped another spoke last night and ended my ride with a wobbly rear wheel. Spent about an hour replacing the spoke and truing the wheel. As a result, she ran beautifully this morning. :)

mgw4jc 09-27-16 06:35 AM

Lots of rain in the late evening and late last night, but roads were mostly dry coming in this morning. Not too hot, but still quite humid. Though it looks like the morning temps will be in the low 60s, upper 50s the rest of the week.

jrickards 09-27-16 06:57 AM

It's been a while since I bike commuted to work although I did ride a lot a week ago, 425km in 4 days, Bike for United Way, but it wasn't commuting. The full route was 582km but I didn't train well enough for it (it was much hillier than I anticipated so even a good training summer would still have been lacking as there aren't many hills close to home).

Short, somewhat wet, commute this morning in cool overcast weather and forecast for more rain and possible thunderstorms this afternoon/evening so I'll have to watch the weather. This morning's route was interrupted by construction that I had to go around.

Have a great day!

Could you tell us more about the attack? It was so bad you had to escape?

esmith2039 09-27-16 07:39 AM

Not bad at all.. Wore gloves so just perfect. Think I'll wear shorts down into the 40's.

arsprod 09-27-16 07:44 AM

Woah, 49F this morning. I'm not ready for colder weather

Wow. Hope you are tip top now. How did it happen? If you needed 3 months to ramp up, then it doesn't sound too good...

This morning's commute was nice. I took it easy since the road was still wet from the rain earlier. But the temp was good 61F or so. So it seems to be the last days for short sleeve jersey weather. Heard off and on rain for this week. Will proably stay with park and ride for now.

Tundra_Man 09-27-16 07:55 AM

Low 40s and windy here this morning. I think fall has arrived.

But it's supposed to warm up to the lower 70s today for my ride across town to the client's office. So it should be a pretty nice day.

Steely Dan 09-27-16 08:38 AM

temp: 56
humidity: 44%
dew point: 39
wind: ~10mph SSW (my inbound commute is 80% due N)

making 09-27-16 09:13 AM

76F, beautiful day great ride. Only one problem. Usually I only have a banana and a cup of coffee before I leave, this morning my wife talked me into eggs and taters. Bad mistake, didn't feel really good coming up the hill. oh, but she can cook.

timvan_78 09-27-16 09:55 AM

massive tailwind this AM! love it.
