Depends on what kind of office I guess - that would get tarwheel and the server tech fired in some places.

I wrung mine out in the shower yesterday morning and hung them up in a portable cabinet I have in my cube. Not ideal with no airflow but by 6 at least they aren't dripping wet. We have some coat racks in the aisles but I can't quite muster up the gumption to hang my wet laundry on them. Underneath a rain jacket works though :)

No rain today but I've already resigned myself to fenders all week, and planning to take it easy on all rides. I have to block out some time (and energy) for preparing for a 5K run and can't decide whether to run in the a.m. or after work ... resulting in putting it off. And then there's the rain excuse ...

I rode into work and back home yesterday. It was a hot day. I didn't feel hot while on the bike, but I think I deceived myself. Upon getting home, I was quite exhausted and could barely think. I'm taking a day off from the bike. I carried a bottle of ice in my hands on the whole one-hour subway ride this morning, and it made me think I ought to do this whenever it's this hot. I probably didn't drink enough water yesterday.

the whole way into to work in my car Sunday night I was listening to the weather radio and all their heat warnings including looking for ppl who seem disoriented. I parked and biked home 22 miles in 94 degrees. when I got home Wifey was barraging me with questions and I just kept nodding, wondering wtf, why are you asking me anything? but I didn't say a word, just attended to my de-biking tasks. good thing we didn't have to do anything important like ride in traffic ... :/

Yeah, I just say my brain is retired for the evening and is not open for business for the rest of the day. The only way to stay healthy at this point is to aim to get less accomplished until the heat passes. I don't have A/C in my bedroom, which is pretty dumb. Let me see what I can do about that, even if it's only for another couple of days. I have a unit in my basement storage closet, and I should put it in.

I rode to and from yesterday. the humidity and heat is rough. 89F felt like 105 or so. I am so thankful to get home and stand in front of a fan for minute cool my body down.

got a bathtub? this time of year it can do more to lower your body temp than a shower

I rode directly to work today as the humidity was high this am. There was a light wind occasionally which felt nice and the ride to work was pleasant.

No clouds this morning - kinda rare. That should mean less humidity, but I'm not sure the 95% vs 99% counts as less.

81 degrees very muggy and a 35 MPH headwind which becomes a crosswind at times. Usually the mornings are light variable winds but today was a surprise. Unfortunately I left at the same time so I had to pick up the morning effort to make it on time.

it's been really humid and warm these past few days. 85-90 in the morning and near 100% humidity. so it's been awful to commute both AM and PM.

but not today! today was 77 and windy. i was never so glad to have headwind during my entire ride. i was in the drops. so good.

yesterday i rode 20 miles. 5 miles to office, 5 miles to doctor, 5 miles back from doctor to office, and 5 miles home. it was empty out there bc it was so hot. on the west side path of manhattan. which is really strange to see...

they're finally building the protected bike paths in brooklyn leading up to the major bridge crossing on manhattan bridge. and starting soon they're going to build the protected bike paths in manhattan (on 2nd Ave / Chrystie St) leading up to the manhattan bridge. i'm really excited for this.

Definitely a little cooler today...got passed by some guy on a trek without so much as a 'hey' or 'hello' but otherwise it was a nice ride.

It was a very low-key ride home yesterday because I planned on my second 5K jog/walk workout afterwards. That was a little better than the first in some ways but I fatigued too easily, I'm thinking the heat and high humidity although it just might be ... the 57 year old legs. I think I'll switch to mornings anyway so that I won't feel like holding back on the ride home.

It is so humid this morning, 97%, that just riding out of the parking lot you're already damp. It's still raining every day so as far as I'm concerned it's all the same, being wet is not that hard to deal with. It's nice having fenders and a chain case though - I don't have to mess with that fixed gear drive train at all, where on my other bike I'd be cleaning and lubing every couple of days.

always more windy on the Cape. nice to read a bout a Cape commuter. what town(s) do you commute through? we tried to move out there several times but couldn't locate work for both of us simultaneously. so we still just visit. Mom always planned to retire there, but Dad wants to stay put in NY.

Another hot muggy day ahead. It was already 80 F when I left for work at 7 am. I had a headwind all the way to work, which helped cool me off but also slowed me down. Today will probably be my last commute of the week. Forecasters are calling for widespread thunderstorms tomorrow, and I'm heading out of town for a bike tour on Friday. I am riding the Erie Canal trail from Buffalo to Albany, NC, with several friends next week. We'll start on Sunday and ride about 60 miles a day. Do bike touring miles count as commute miles? My "job" next week will be riding from town to town on my touring bike with loaded panniers.

Let's see less than 4 hours sleep, got half way down the hill and realized the back tire was almost flat. Had to go back and get the other all the while the $%^& neighbor dog barked and barked waking up half the neighborhood. I gave the owner a good cussing when he finally came out, tired of it!

Temp was nice and with a cool breeze most of the ride.

Almost to work a older lady on a bike decided to wedge in front of me at a light... guess I wasn't close enough to the car in front for her. And after it turned and we turned I was told I should be taking the sidewalk in that area due to blind spots. In the 2-3 years I've never had a issue in that area.. and if a car can't see me they can't see the other cars since I'm the same height.

Alot of other bikers out lately and most of the time friendly passing waves!

40% chance of rain today but that is better than the 80% that was called for earlier in the week.

First bicycle commute to the new office. I had a route already planned out and ridden a few times, but I noticed on Google Maps that there was a dirt trail that would shave a couple K's off the route and would probably be a bit safer because it's off the main roads. So this morning I tried that trail for the first, and probably last time. Turns out it's a singletrack mountain bike trail, not at all suitable for a road bike with slicks, which is pretty much all I own. Most of the trail isn't even dirt - it's just a tire-width's worth of flattened grass, and in the morning dew, is very slippery, and there's a lot of up and down. I spun out on the first climb, and just walked my bike up the hills after that. The near 0 clearance between the front tire and fork quickly got gummed up.

Maybe I need to put some knobbies back on my cyclocross bike and try again sometime. In the meantime, I'll stick to the roads.

A nice 63 degrees this morning with some heavy humidity. Glasses get wet and my trunk bag ends up with a layer of water on it. Getting to the low 80's and sun for the ride home. Looking forward to it. Not planning on adding any extra mileage since I'm playing hockey at 9 tonight. Be up at 5 to ride into work again.

Have fun, there are a lot of nice lakes along that way. Once you get to Albany, or before that at Amsterdam, you should turn left and pedal through the Adirondacks. There are some gorgeous sights. My mom and sister live near Syracuse and if you're in need let me know and I will get you in touch with them.


I have not done any riding lately but I a five day canoe trip with my in-law in 3.5 days last weekend. It was about 55 km of paddling and if you only did the portages in one trip each it was about 8 km hiking, the longest portage was about 2.5km. It made me miss backpacking and hiking, something my wife doesn't enjoy now a days as she did when she was younger. It was also nice to see what I was capable of hiking with a loaded pack, I think I surprised a few people with my dumb ability to haul a lot of crap on my back. It was a nice thing to see that most of the people we saw doing the trip were teenagers from summer camps. Meanwhile we were a group with five 30 somethings, a 35 year-old (yo) disabled guy, a 62 yo with an artificial hip, a 68 yo, a 1 yo, and a 5 yo doing a 5 day trip in three and a half days.

Now that we are home we have to start packing since we pick up our moving truck in two weeks for our move across the Georgia Strait to Nanaimo. My former cycle commute will be replaced with a kayak paddle across the harbor.

Well an especially nice ride today as there it was cool 62f degrees, so I took the long route to work.

Bonus commute today. I had planned to drive due to forecasts calling for 80% chance of thunderstorms today. However, the forecast totally changed overnight and now they're calling for about a 20% chance of rain, so I took my chances and rode. I don't know why I even bother following our local forecasters when it comes to rain because they are wrong so much of the time, and I'll probably get soaked this afternoon.

Thanks for the well wishes about my bike tour next week. Hopefully it will be much cooler and less humid in New York. I'll try to post some updates along the way.

Humidity is just thick again. Took the glasses off part way just so I could see clearly. Temps are a nice mid 60's so I'll take it though. Probably have frost warnings in a couple weeks. Tired legs after commuting yesterday and then a late night of hockey. 90 minutes of young college players shooting hard rubber at me... A great night.
Should be mid 80's for the ride home. A dinner stop along the way so it will be broken up.
