Wet. It has been raining off and on here in Anchorage for a couple of weeks now. Getting kind of tired of it. Fortunately the temps have been around 57F/14C so it hasn't been chilly for the ride.

So darn hot and humid, but the car has no A/C anyway, so riding the bike is cooler in more ways than one.

The humidity this week has been the worst it's been all summer, which is saying a lot. Today was no exception. I had to stop three times during my morning commute to wipe sweat from my eyes and clean off my eyeglasses. Same thing yesterday. My cycling clothes didn't dry off during the day, despite hanging from a drying rack in my air-conditioned office for 9 hours. It is totally disgusting.

warm and 97% humidity this morning makes for a wet ride. Drizzle started just as I was pulling into the parking lot. Heard a pop as I was cruising along at the halfway point. Broke a spoke so the wheel has a little wobble in it. Glad it was on my commute and not on one of my segments of the Mississippi River trail.

About 1.5 miles from work my back tire went flat. Don't know why or how, it just was. I tried to air it up a bit to see if I could limp the rest of the way to work, but no go. Had to stop and change it, making me about 15 minutes late to work. Now I have some of that hard to get out grime under my fingernails and my hands smell like a bike tire. Oh well!
Good ride otherwise. |

This coming Monday, the office is moving to a new location, so today is the last day riding my current route. The new location is about 3 km closer and should take about 1/2 hour on a good day. I've discovered there's a dirt trail I could take that would reduce the distance even more and also be a bit safer of a route, but it turns to mud in rain, so it's not an option on wet days.
It was a beautiful morning for my last commute downtown. Another commuter sat on my wheel for the last hill and then pulled up beside me to compliment me for climbing on a single speed. Really, the hills in this city aren't that bad, and any fit rider should be able to power up (almost) any hill in the city. Lower gears are for the mountains. |

Seen a large coyote jump out of the cornfield and dart back in on the way home. I run into all kinds of wildlife, but this was my first coyote encounter.

My commute this morning was interesting, after getting on the bike and deciding it seemed very light, I rode the direct route to work. As I was riding in the driveway I heard my phone ring. Thinking it was my daughter I stopped to answer it because I had plenty of time. It was my husband telling me I forgot my pannier with my clothes and lunch. Go figure, no wonder my bike was light. I thought it felt lighter because I had done a 3 day ride this weekend from Montpelier VT to Amherst MA carrying all my gear and just one pannier would seem light. So I turned around and rode the direct route home, took a shower and got dressed. I had to take the car at that point.

A fox darted in front of me and crossed the road this morning. I've seen them from a distance before but can't remember one running across as close as this one. He was totally silent so I still don't know what the fox say.

Rain, managed to miss any thunderstorms and hope that happens for the ride home. Temps have dropped and oddly enough it felt less humid, actually pleasant!

to & from, last nite & this morning, was OK, real hot yesterday later afternoon, glad it was 20 degrees cooler this morning. left knee was sore for some reason last night, was conscious of my posture/positioning today on the way in. darker each week!

I got completely drenched this morning, one of those random things where the forecast said 5% so I neglected to check the radar and got caught in a squall. Just the wrong bike, no fenders or lights and no rain stuff. I did have my neoprene shoe covers with me that I put on at a convenience store, because the one thing that really irks me is soggy socks and sneakers.

slight wreck today dont tell my wife.
I put some Gatorskins on my commuter. (used to run Contact 2's) I guess looking for lighter weight and maybe some speed :foo:but this morning I was turning around on the greenway and tires slide out from underneath me. ;) Slight scrape on the knee nothing bad really and the panniers and bike seem fine.
I have to remember the shady parts of the greenway with this humidity are in a perpetual state of sogginess and slick as glass. Probably have some sort of mold/ algae growing on them. she commented on the smoothness of the tires yesterday I hope this was the only instance. |
Nice and quiet commute in. Cool and very humid again. Should be a nice afternoon cruise home.
Broke a spoke on Friday morning which made for a wobbly ride. The bike came with three spare spokes mounted on the frame but the rear wheel was going to require dismantling it to replace the spoke so I took it in Saturday morning. Got a call yesterday that it's ready. Won't be driving until tomorrow so it will have to wait. |

Fall weather it seems is here. Calling the dog catcher today on a couple houses. Going to start rebuilding the bikes for winter this weekend.. both really need it!

Hot ride home yesterday. Last week we only got to 90 - 92F, but yesterday it was more like 96F with a "Feels Like" of 96C.
Decent ride this morning. I left a few minutes early and rode a little more than 15 miles. Now to sit for 8 or 9 hours. :P |
It was overcast and had the feeling of about to pour but that's how it stayed the whole ride in. Humid but reasonably warm, 18C/64F. Forecast for rain starting at noon and continuing into the afternoon so it might be a wet ride home.

Heh. This usually only happens to me when I go through a downpour (or "second shower" as I call it) in the morning. Its one of the few drawbacks with cyclecommuting.
Rain day #2, three consecutive rain rides, but I can't complain compared to folks down south |
