Riding home was tough. I usually have headwinds in the morning, but the ride back was quite windy.

Great commute! Laced up some alloy rims on my 3 speed last night, and only have a 1 way commute today due to an oyster roast fund raiser my wife's work is hosting a few blocks away this evening. Windy, mostly a tail wind, comfortable temps, light traffic. What could be better?

Nice ride this morning. Mild temperature, gentle tailwind (the kind you don't notice at all). The peepers in the swam were loud again, after having been silent the last few days. Bright stars, so I kept looking up, perplexed, and I realized I need to learn more constellations. I had no idea what I was looking at. Pretty, though.

50F, blinding sun. Sadly going to miss the 80F ride home due to retrieving car that was worked on over night (same as I missed the 50F ride in yesterday but caught the 80F ride home)

I did a multi-modal car share bus commute today. I messed up my bus timings and had to walk a few blocks. That was no fun, it made me really miss riding. Biking is so much easier and more fun, and now that I super slow walking compared to the old me it is really hard to not want to go quicker on a bike.
Have a great weekend everyone. I've got a double date with my wife, of course, and some friends. We are going to play and dinner. It is exciting, since hospitalization and infant care we have had only a handful of actual dates in the last couple of years. Sunday plans were cancelled so I might try to coax my wife and other friends for a sow ride at some park. |
Been crazy windy this whole week.
Just rode from our office to a client's location 8 miles away. Took me a full hour. 35 degrees and a 30+ mph steady headwind took the fun out of everything. I made Tim Conway look fast. |
Shed the studded snow tires last week and am loving the faster commute. Picked up almost 4 MPH on average.

It was a very nice commute this morning, with the temp at 40f degrees. I was about two miles away when a very light rain started. If it is going to rain this afternoon I hope it is like this mornings rain.

I am supposed to be running a 4 mile run this weekend with my sister at 8am on Saturday. It is supposed to be 42F and 20mph winds. :twitchy: I was hoping for spring weather when I signed up now I am trying to figure out how or what kind of layers I will need.
... the past two days of driving have confirmed for me that biking is much better for me. I am on time and I don't have to fight the traffic like I have the past two days. it has been brutal. I know what you mean about driving. With morning traffic, there is not a good way to drive from my house to the office. I usually end up taking my bike route, but skipping the neighborhoods that I ride through. It just feels weird.

Have a nice time at Jekyll, mgw4cj. We lived in Savannah before moving to Raleigh and I've spent a lot of time camping, cycling, hiking and canoeing in Coastal Georgia. Pick up some Avon Skin So Soft lotion if you haven't already. It's the most effective repellent for the no-see-ums in the coastal areas.
Good ride this morning. Cool at 48F and overcast. |
FAST, I am not sure if I was actually faster than usual but I felt fast and I guess that is what really matters.
I ran a 4 mile race this weekend with my sister. We decided to stay through the awards ceremony since it looked liked she had placed 3rd woman overall. I was ready to go but they quickly got to my age group and come to find out I was 1st place for my age group and 4th guy to finish and 5 out of 94 runners. I felt pretty good on the run considering I have mostly been biking to and from work and not running that much. :) Biking the cross training for running! |
Commuted Thursday morning. Dark, just beginning to lighten up in the east when I got to work. This morning, lightening up from the beginning. Sunrise seems to be moving fast.
|
Great effort, Matthew! You're making us commuters proud. I used to be a runner mostly and cycled on my off days for cross-training, but injuries took a toll and I don't run anymore.
Our Goldilocks weather continues in NC, with mild temperatures and no rain. For the first time in ages, I didn't do any riding over the weekend as my wife had a big honey-do list for me, so my legs were fresh this morning. I plan to ride the long route home this afternoon if the nice weather holds, which would give me about 45 miles on the day. |
thanks tarwheel ! I was a bit surprised how it turned out. I think I underestimated my goal going in.. I did not think I would feel as good as I did.
Glad I could represent the commuters. |
Back after almost a week off - back to rain and headwinds. At least it's warmer, low 50's. The wind is supposed to reverse direction, so headwind going home. And the worst thing, even worse than headwind is pledge week at my local public radio station (listen to on the way in each morning). Even worse than that I usually switch to Chicago public radio during our pledge drive but theirs is this same week. Commuting gods are conspiring against me

I miss running but I have been living vicariously through my sister who has been competing and also does well for herself. Now I can add you to the list. |
The ride in this morning was very nice with all the noises that spring brings(birds and peepers). The temp was warm somewhere in the mid-fifties.

Mega-commute yesterday, taking the long route home along the greenways. The weather was perfect with temps in the 70s although a bit windy. Topped 45 miles for the day and I was pretty tired by the time I got home. It's supposed to rain all day today, so I drove, part of my motivation for the long commute yesterday.
|
I haven't commuted for at least a couple of weeks. My allergies have been terrible and the weather has been crap. Windy, rainy, and cold for this time of year. I'm feeling better and weather forecast looks great. Can't wait to try the new saddle and handlebars. I went mountain biking with a group on my single speed this past weekend and it kicked my butt! Can't believe how bad out of shape I've become in a few weeks.

Good run @RidingMatthew and congrats on the age group award!
At work I park my bike outside under a tree. Yesterday I found this in the trunk bag. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=515430 I believe something was trying to make a home in there. Proof that bike commuting is for the birds! Today it was warm enough this morning to leave the jacket at home. Roads were wet from some overnight rain. |
A little chilly this morning with temps back below freezing. However, the remainder of the week looks warm and dry!

THanks joeyduck and mgw4jc for the encouragement.
I drove today because it is supposed to rain all day. good news is that I have lost some more weight and am real close to the riding weight I was during the middle of the summer AND IT APRIL. Maybe that is why I feel faster? I pushed it on the way home and average 16.3mph. felt good to push. Felt good to have weather 70F nice enough to push hard in... instead of freezing and windy. |
First dry work day in a week. So, I rode. The commute was great. No wind, temps in the upper 30's. Can't complain about that.

What a terrific morning ride. I have to stay at work later tomorrow, so I took my time leaving this morning. Got some much needed maintenance done before I left and now my drive train is finally working perfectly and silently. I was having some chain suck problems, and have long suspected it was the B screw on the RD, but I have been pushing it off (oh, I'll do it before the next ride, or I'll do it when I get home - and it never happens). Anyhow, it's a rainy day here, but I was able to push my departure enough to hit a window where it was only drizzling, and this afternoon I should have a clear window before it gets heavy tonight. I love when my fenders have to do their job. They aren't there just to look good! I do need some mud flaps though. Just haven't decided what to get.

Morning temps in the 40's... again. Sick of having to layer up. It has to be into the 60's before I can get on with just shorts/bibs and jersey
The commute itself was fairly uneventful. Right after I pulled out of my neighborhood a motorist passed me in the center lane, and then after they passed and were moving back into the travel lane, they decided to lay on the horn. No other cars around in front or behind, or on any side streets. If that was meant for me, then wow that was a major delayed reaction. :P Been seeing that Highway Patrol guy in the SUV several times in recent weeks, but since that one time in December when he called me out over the loudspeaker, and I emailed his captain, not a peep from him since. |
