[QUOTE=Spoonrobot;18851009]What is that, about 8 inches of spacers?

Why can't Soma design a frame that doesn't require a ridiculous amount of spacers?

Well... I say "why can't people buy the right size frame for their height?"
With that much seatpost showing, go to the next larger size frame.

The next larger size could have too much reach.

No it wouldn't
Next size larger frame would have 3mm more reach. That gonna be a problem?
Should've used a different stem instead of putting all those spacers on.

Maybe whoever built it wanted it that high, who knows. My utility bike frame is technically too large for me (zero standover clearance), but I still put on a stem riser and several spacers to give me an upright riding position.

You need to be careful with comparing reach measurements across different sizes that also have different stack heights. Once you add the extra spacers to the smaller sized frame to get a given effective stack height, you are also reducing the effective reach.

For this reason, when you are looking at which frame size to get for a certain needed final stack height (including spacers) the difference in reach between sizes is usually a bit greater than the reach measurements listed for the different frame sizes would lead you to believe at first.

They may have used the tall headset spacer stack with the straight stem in order to leave the steertube long if this was a test bike. I did the same on my bike until I knew exactly where I wanted to run the bars.

From the Soma FB page: they will soon be selling color matched fenders for all their current road and touring models.

I love a good electric blue mica. My Toyota pickup is Speedway Blue, and they sold the TC in a much similar color.. There's a blue in their current lineup that's just not quite as good.

You prefer they cut the steerer tube off too short? Stop blame shifting, You bought too small a frame.

that photo was from Soma. That's the way they want it to be.

If I recall correctly, that was a test bike and it needed that amount of spacers to accomodate a taller test riders. I imagine that, being a prototype, they didn't had one of each size made.

Soma specs super small headtubes to keep the other main triangle tubes short(er) and keep the weight and cost down. Leads to ridiculous pictures like the above as well as dumb explanations.

What possible information could be gleamed by fitting a rider to a bike with something like 8 inches of spacers but a 80mm stem?

No, if you read the comments.

That was a pre-production test frame. It was being tested by a tall rider, requiring a 58cm frame, hence the giant seat post and stack of spacers. They simply removed the spacers for other testers.

Again, pre-production test frame. No one bought the wrong frame, it was a test sample. Nothing to see here.
