Deerstone GB Tyre review

Not sure if this is the correct place for this, but, I did not see much out there about these tires so I thought I would share my thoughts on them.

I picked up an ol' Nishiki Navajo for $80 and have been using it for commuting to work and back (20kms round trip)(50/50 gravel asphalt)

The tires that came with it were probably the original late '80's - early '90's 26 x 1.9 mtb tires. There was lots of tread, but they were certainly showing their age, and had me concerned enough about a blowout to be in the market for some new treads.

So I went down to the local bike shop to see what options they had. I was looking for something with a tread more geared towards commuting. They showed me 2 tires, one was $60 each. One was $16 each. Guess which one I picked....

That's right, the el' cheapo's. I gotta tell you, I couldn't be happier with these tires. The ol' Nishiki has never rode better. Smooth, quiet, effortless riding. These tires handle the pavement, gravel, and all the imperfections that one could expect on a daily commute with ease. On the way to work yesterday I took a detour through one of the local park trails and the tires held their own there as well.

Maybe the $60 tires were better, maybe not, but, I couldn't justify 4x the price. If you are building a daily commuter on a budget, I wouldn't pass these up, especially for the price.

I bought some inexpensive Kenda Kwests and I can't imagine any tire working any better. The bike came worth Kenda Small Block 8s which were okay, but not grippy or smooth enough, worth poor cornering.

I've been attempting to upload some images of the tires, but, I can't seem to do it.

Are these a Canadian market thing? I couldn't find much on Google, and you're talking about "tyres" and "kms" but in dollars.

Yes. I am Canadian. I referred to "tyres" because that's how they are labeled. I am not surprised you didn't find anything on them. Neither could I. I don't expect anyone to go and search out these tires specifically, but, should someone come across them and be considering them, I figured there should be more info out there.
