I like Strava; however, when I started riding there were no computers for bikes. How in the world did I survive? ROFL!

I'n not aware that any version of Strava does real-time. I only use it to collect other data for my rides to keep track, sort of my personal motivator if you will. Once the data is uploaded, you can use what Strava calls "flyby" to see other Strava members who may have been near, or intersected with your ride. Only looked at it once and did see a couple of cyclists one day when I rode.

I love flyby, and check it everyday. It's great for checking out that Lance Armstrong that blew by you. I have this one guy who passes me periodically and he often rides a 30 mile commute with an average speed of 18mph or so. Always pushes me to work harder...

I would guess most regular commuters don't bother with Strava, but if you see athletes/racers they use Strava a lot to track their rides.
I'm in the SF Bay Area, and there are a *lot* of commuters and competitive cyclists. If I ride my commutes over rush hour sometimes I'll see 7 or 8 in my flybys. Some of these will do 20 or 30 mile rides regularly. Even off hours I'll get at least 1 or 2.

I start Strava, immediately put the phone in my pocket, do my ride and check out all the data when I'm home. You don't use it while riding.
