My commute is 31 miles round trip, with zero bike lanes or paths. All public roads. I ride ~3,500 miles a year on all types of roads, city, suburban, neighborhood and rural, in many types of traffic. In almost 4 years I've only felt the need to really yell a handful of times, and never felt it necessary to have a horn.

I ring my bell on almost all of my rides, though not usually for emergencies.

Good for you. And I will not mirror your stance and claim that there is something wrong with you. Apparently you are not a customer for a horn. I use some sort of a sound signal about twice a day, most often a bell. However, a bell is largely ineffective on cars and, when needed, I escalate to a horn. On quite rare occasions I use a horn on pedestrians, mostly when they are oblivious to their surrounding immersed in music from headphones under head cover or something.

interesting find - do come back and report how it works en-route after many a trial run...
