Lower 30's with wind chills in the 20's and wind out of the NE.. ie against me. Overdressed a little but that wind can be tricky anyways.

Sorry to hear about the pup noglider. I'm sure you both provided each other many happy times.
Warm at 60F, but breezy fall day. Good enough ride. My goal for 6,000 commuting miles is looking iffy. I have 895 miles to go which isn't that bad but between days off for Thanksgiving and Christmas, it gets to be tight. It was nice having more daylight this morning, but I'll instead have to run the lights for the second half or so of my ride home. I was asleep by 9:30 last night (the old 10:30) and had no problem waking up this morning. |
Rain and showers over the weekend and forecast for the week as well as sub-freezing temps so I decided to put my studded tires on my mtb for the rides from now on but I ran out of time this weekend (I also had to clean the bike from muddy ride in late September and that's where the time went during daylight).
I also should be back on the bike on Wednesday (appointment tomorrow that'll require the car). |

31F, sun to the west, fog to the east. Flirting with all-time record lows for the date (upper 20s) this past weekend and the next couple days.
Oh yes, after a stable cold period, wore 2 shirts today and tights. |
Timecard and time wait for no man.
A line of showers came through at commute time this morning. I verbalized the thought, "That freshet while I was taking out the garbage got me wet, now I'll dry off all the way to work." Right after that, the real shower hit. #2 light in the line of synchronized 25 mph intersections was out (red blinking light), so I got caught at the next to last one and skidded almost into the intersection. After that the rain stopped, traffic was light, everything was pretty quiet and there were patches of nice tree leaves in the dim light. |
The weather was cold a windy today, and even though I've riden in a lot worse the ride in today just wasn't fun for the first time in a long time. I hope it's better tomorrow when I need to be here earlier.

Another flat and I found out the hard way especially after having been out sick fr a few days.
Taking a sharp u turn at the point where I come off the 14th street bridge heading into DC from VA at the Jefferson memorial there I thought it fel;t like gravel buit it turned out my front end was about half down thus I had no control. Went flying (it's always a moment that seems timeless to me "I'm falling off the bike, that's odd".) That makes it two flats in roughly two weeks. |
I stayed in bed an hour after my alarm went off, got to the polling station just before they opened. My ballot was No. 0001, not that I was the first person to vote, but pretty cool nonetheless.
Dark when I left the polling station, light when I got to the train station, with beautiful colors in the sky. Sorry to hear about Waffle, noglider! Pete died on Saturday. His health had been in decline for several months and he took a turn for the worse last week, though not in any distress. Saturday morning he got out of his box, wobbled into the kitchen where I was doing something, and lay down and died. What a relief he didn't have to make that last trip to the veterinarians! Going to the vet stressed him out terribly. |
I'm kinda enjoying the earlier morning daylight. I left about 10 minutes before my normal time and got in a couple of extra miles for about 16.5 total.
I saw a pair of baby shoes sitting in the grass beside the MUP. After passing by I decided to go back, pick them up and move them to the trail entrance where there were a couple of benches. I figure someone would be more likely to see them there. |
rhm, that's too bad about Pete! He was a good guy though a little silly, but that was his charm. Now where will you get hairs for your special paint brushes?
And thank you. I wanted to be early to work and didn't have everything laid out for riding so I took the subway for the second day in a row. The guy I rushed to meet isn't here. Grr. |

Temp was 7 this morning with a wind chill of -6 for today's Fargo, ND commute. We had about a 1'' snowfall yesterday, so much of the paths/streets were white still.
This was my first "winter" commute on my fat tire bike. I was geared up just right including wearing my goggles, so it was a nice cozy ride into the office (4.3 miles). Felt great. :thumb: |
Back on the bike again after another period of illness. Hopefully September/October 2017 will just be a bad memory. 43F, wet, and windy... whatever it is it's better than driving!

It was snowing on the way home last night. The weather report said the snow was going to stay north of us. It didn't. I had ridden the road bike to work that morning with the skinny tires so I just had to take it easy.
This morning it was 26°F with a light wind. There were lots of icy patches from yesterday's snow melting on the warm pavement, then freezing overnight. No additional snow was in the forecast for today. I briefly considered breaking out the winter bike with the studded tires, but I really don't like riding that bike unless I have to. I then considered riding my hybrid, but I was going to log 21 miles today. So then I decided that if I was going to ride a bike without studs, I might as well take the road bike. I just road around the icy patches and took it easy across the bridges. Made it to work just fine on those skinny tires. |
Got my first snow of the year on my morning commute
Doesn’t look like it will stay |

31F, still. Clear to the south/west, fog to the north/east.

I am sure there was a thread in this forum with a survey about cycling with a kid seat and now I can’t find it, either if it was moved or deleted. I know it was here somewhere because I took the survey.

Oh man did I get soaked riding home from the station yesterday! I couldn't have got much wetter if I'd swum.
This morning was a little cold but hey, no rain, who's complaining? When I docked my citibike, I saw something unusual: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4540/...8f6067f4_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4563/...437124bb_b.jpg It would appear a car took the turn a little too wide, turning from Fifth Avenue onto 37th Street, and hit the docked bike. Rear wheel crushed, frame snapped in half. |
A bit nippy but I've gotten use to it, no wind at least. One thing I hate when it's cold is setting at lights when I don't need to.. guess I've become a red light runner. Although technically I treat them as a four way stop.

My first commute this week on my bike. It was cooler at 37 f degrees with wet roads from rain last night. I waited a few extra minutes before leaving the house this morning so I could arrive at work in the light.
We had to purchase a new car last week and I had been hoping we could go car-free. It is just not realistic at this stage of our lives. Though it bothers me to pay for a car that most days sits in a driveway. |
It was about 20 degrees cooler today compared to yesterday, but after reading about Fargo and snow and such, my 46F seems warm. I had a few sprinkles here and there, but nothing to actually get me wet.
I've managed a bit faster paces the past couple of rides, most likely due to some favorable winds. The baby shoes I moved from grass to bench yesterday were still on the bench today. |

Coldest ride to date this fall, -6C/21F (windchill -11C/12F). Wore mitts and rode my mtb with studded tires (that I hastily scrambled to get ready last night) and I'm glad I did as there were quite a few shallow puddles that had frozen over.

21F with a light breeze. There were still icy patches but nothing I couldn't just ride around so I kept riding my road bike. Might as well enjoy it for as long as possible before I switch to the slow winter bike.
I must be getting my winter skin. I rode away from the house and was a couple blocks away and caught myself thinking, "Wow! It's really nice out today!" After owning my Niterider 750 light set for a year and a half, I accidentally figured out how to set it into blinking mode. When I was shopping for a new light set, my criteria included a blinking mode. However after I purchased it I couldn't for the life of me make it blink. I would follow the instructions and "hold the power button for 2 seconds" but every time I did that it would turn the light off. Last night when I arrived at home I was fumbling around trying to turn off my light and accidentally held the power button for 4 seconds and it started blinking. Turns out you have to hold the power button for 2 seconds when it's turned off, and I was always starting from the "on" mode. |
