@HardyWeinberg - love the photos!
A nice ride in this morning. I was out the door on time, but then saw the water drops on this plant by our porch so paused to take a pic or two. https://scontent.cdninstagram.com/t5...23146496_n.jpg |
For some reason my alarm went off at 5 but I didn't actually wake up until 6:15! No matter, I was determined to ride today, and man I'm glad I did. I think this was the first time this season I didn't need any extra layers in the morning. Jersey and bib shorts and out the door. I normally leave at 6 AM but this time it was 6:40, which meant I had plenty of sunshine, and temps in the low-mid 60's. Almost no wind to speak of. Just perfect! :thumb:

2nd straight day of warm, sunny, beautiful weather. Thus... the 2nd straight day of commuting! :-) Unfortunately it looks like the rain is moving back in for Wed/Thurs.
|
Rain, soaking rain. Thought I'd be clever and wait out the worst by waiting (thunderstorms) and when I finally decided it was letting up I discovered I had a flat. Ah well, better to have one at home than in the rain. Still got soaked
|
Slept poorly last night and I'm coming down with a cold, but it's a beautiful day so I rode. 11C/52F and only a light breeze.
|
A lovely morning and I just took it easy. The driftwood pile by Nimbus dam is getting hauled away.
|
52F, blinding sun

The weather was beautiful here again today, and it's bringing out the fair weather commuters. We also have a regional bike commute challenge thing going on.
https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4173/3...9f295e01_c.jpg Just a couple of weeks ago my bike and the recumbent were the only ones on this rack. More than a few of these turn up pretty regularly throughout the summer. |
Yesterday afternoon I was riding home and listening to U2 rehearsing at BC Place stadium (getting ready for their tour which starts Friday). It was sunny. I stopped for a bit to listen and this guy stops (also riding a Kona) and he says "it's a nice day for a free U2 concert, and it's my birthday!" Crazy coincidence because yesterday was my birthday as well! :)

Happy Birthday timvan_78!
A very nice morning ride, though I think it is the first morning this year I actually felt sweaty upon arrival. It is only 58F, but the humidity is at 98% so the sweat just wasn't evaporating. |
55F and foggy but no rain. It's bike to school day - nice to see lots of kids on bicycles!
|
Almost 70 degree's.. perfect! Replaced both bike's chains last night and the freewheel on one. First time for me, guess I did it right didn't fall apart this morning.

Just perfect weather for commuting, both yesterday and today. Yesterday, though, just after I left the office, I ended up getting stung by something (bee, wasp etc.) on my left temple right behind my left glasses side arm. I could feel something in that area like an insect, which wasn't unusual as I'll get flies or gnats up around the top of my glasses on my forehead from time to time. So I reached up and felt the insect, and thought it might be a ladybug at first. Then I felt the pain. I suddenly realized what happened and chucked my glasses off the side of the road like "I THREW IT ON THE GROUNDDDD!!!" :P (type in "threw" on YouTube if you don't know the reference).
So then I had to stop and circle back to get my glasses on the grassy edge of the road (2-lane rural, no shoulder). I also tore off my helmet and skullcap and threw those on the ground, then used my phone front camera to check out the damage. Just a small red welt and a bit of soreness. I put everything back on and continued the other 14 miles home. By the time I got home it didn't really hurt anymore and I couldn't see any sign of the sting. This morning nothing visible, and only a tiny lump in that area of my face. So I guess that means there were definitely no allergic reactions or anything, so that's good. Other than that a nice spring day with a nice tail wind. :) |
I was on line at my local pizzeria last night, and the guy ahead of me complained to me about how cold the weather is for May. It's been about 50ºF in the mornings and about 63º in the peak of the day. I told him to be happy, because we'll be begging for weather like this in the summer. I'm very happy about it.
I got home late last night and woke up super tired this morning. My body told me no bike commuting. And I forced myself to do it anyway, and I had a great time. After trying to improve my average travel speed for a year or so, I am finally starting to succeed. I'm hoping that an improved travel speed will also bring better endurance for weekend rides. |
Rode with my daughter to her school this morning. It's the best part of my day.
|
This mornings commute was a nice uneventful ride with the temp at 47f degrees and partly cloudy. But when passing the blooming lilacs along my ride they smell so wonderful. What a nice way to start the day!

60 degrees but a constant NW wind. Bike to work day but didn't see or hear of anything around KC.. doesn't surprise me though!

When I got to Penn Station yesterday afternoon my train was just being announced over the PA; they said it was "approaching the station." Never a good sign. Ten minutes later, they made the same announcement :notamused: but it wasn't a long wait after all. I'd guess we left five minutes late. My ride home from the station was lovely; a bit of a tail wind, warm sun, cool air, really very nice until a couple hundred yards from home when a bug flew into my eye. It was just a little bug but it stung like crazy. Riding with one eye, I tried to open my other eye but it was just too painful. And suddenly it got really hard to ride! Just as I was getting home I realized I'd been squeezing the rear brake lever ever since the bug impact! Doh. I washed my eye out and took a benedryl and it got better.
A cool ride this morning. A fox ran across the road in front of me. Full moon behind light clouds. Pretty nice! |

I had to take the car in for service and an inspection. So I rode the 4.5 miles from there to the office and will go back at lunch to get the car. This puts me on a fairly busy two lane road for about 2.5 miles, one that I can normally avoid. I managed to average 20mph for the first two miles including filtering through two stop lights. The road has several middle turn lanes so that helped the cars get around me. Overheard at the service department while I was waiting: Agent: Good Morning! How are you today? Customer: Good. How are you? Agent: I'm good, thanks. Yourself? |
Another beautiful morning. 40°F with a light north wind. Not a cloud in the sky. For the fifth time since last Thursday I tacked on extra miles rather than going directly to work. Today I rode about 10 additional.
Just realized that yesterday was the 15 month anniversary since the last time I drove to work. Time flies when you're having fun. |
Yesterday, I think I pushed myself harder than ever on a commuting ride. It felt fantastic, but I think I'm paying for it now. No regrets, but I'm tired.
A skunk was about to cross the path, and when it heard or saw me, it retracted to the woods by the path. I came upon a man on foot coming the other way, and I warned him. I think I scared him more than necessary. |
This week has been a mess and so far I've only ridden Tuesday. I hope Friday will be a riding day but can't guarantee it to myself.
|
My car has been in the shop today and yesterday, so I've had a couple of nice 9 miles each way commutes. There's been some rain, but not too bad. Feels good after not riding for 6 days--we had bad thunderstorms and a person died, so I didn't want to be dumb, riding in thunderstorms.
The mornings have been glorious, high 40s and cool and misty. Only bad thing was twice yesterday I had a vengeful father Canadian goose hissing at me for daring to ride past his family. Once I shrieked, cause he was being pretty terrifying. I lived to tell the tale. I know that geese and swans get pretty protective of their goslings/cygnets. Can't say I blame them! |
This morning was really nice. I was late, but the weather was sunny-cloudy (you know?) so it was both bright out and cool at the same time. The wind was just slight enough to wick the sweat off of my back, so I got to school barely sweaty. My school has 2 bike racks, both in very inconvenient spots, so I ended up arriving to class about 15 minutes late, but the weather made up for it :)
