Nice, cool morning today. Rain and storms supposedly coming before 5 this evening, but radar shows it still pretty far off so we'll see how quickly it travels.

My newer bike that I took to the shop for a tune-up is still waiting its turn. They told me it would be done by Tuesday, so I called yesterday afternoon and they told me Wednesday. I don't think I really explained that I ride it to work, not that they would have gotten to it faster. Next time I'll see if an appointment or something can be set up so it's not just sitting there.

I've been riding my old bike which just doesn't even seem to fit right anymore, not to mention all the mechanical work it needs.

There's a Facebook group for our city called "Sioux Falls Bicycle Photos" where riders post various pictures of their cycling adventures. Yesterday another cyclist in our area posted a similar photo to mine with his bike covered in worms. So apparently it wasn't just me!

Cooler this morning at 47F and a decent crosswind. Severe thunderstorm warnings for this afternoon - hopefully I can get in between them though still a little gun shy from last week's hail ride.

I've been commuting 15+ years, full time the last 7, and today I went one street off one of my normal routes to a street I don't think I've ever been on. What an amazing discovery - a near downtown neighborhood with beautiful homes. I need to do that more often

Was a nice rode but a little foggy at 48F. Also had some traffic backup from the GWB. I also rode the train yesterday and learned why I like cyclecommuting. :rolleyes: All trains that go through Broad St Newark are getting redirected to Hoboken. This was due to a derailment at Penn Station on Monday:

I have no idea how they can let the Northeast Corridor train into Penn, but they are still running. heard that we will get 1.25 inches of rain tomorrow. I'm going to cyclecommute that as well and be wet and proud. :thumb:

Yesterday afternoon is what some might call perfection. 80 degrees, tail wind, 15 miles and zero problems from motorists. I pushed hard and made great time (for me), just 63 minutes ride time.

I installed the clipless stuff I got last month. The cheap "Nashbar exclusive" Giro shoes seem solid if not very nicely finished, and they fit well. I had to trim some tread off with a carpet knife because it interfered with the pedal. I set the $6 Nashbar pedals aside and only used the cleats - the bearings are cruelly over-tightened and no time or really inclination to adjust them. Instead I used some beat-up but nice quality Shimano PD-M505 that I grabbed at the Bike Kitchen some months ago. I noted at the Kitchen, they had a lot of clipless pedals of various standards, but no shoes and very limited cleats. This was my first time clipless in seven or eight years. I gave it up when I got my heart diagnosis and foolishly sold my go-fast bike. I did not eat **** but I'm sure my time is coming. Coming to a stop at a light or stop sign was fine. I did have a moment or two where I forgot the sequence to stop and get off.

Also, phone was dead as a doornail this morning because I left Strava running last night. This reduced my start time by a minute or two - no fiddling with headphone cords or starting Strava and selecting a podcast.

I had a gorgeous, blissful ride into work today. I'm so happy and grateful I can do this. A big fog sat on the river. The sun sent some rays down to burn it off, but it wasn't finished with its job by the time I got to work. In the meantime, the scenery was fantastic. I felt great on the bike, too.

[MENTION=339610]Darth Lefty[/MENTION], with practice you can get good at it again. I've now reached the point where not only do I feel safe in cleats in traffic, I feel safer with them than without them. I love my SPD shoes which look at lot like yours.

I recommend that you consider getting some really nice Shimano pedals. You will thank yourself, even though there is a dollar cost. After using many various Wellgo/Nashbar pedals, I can appreciate the difference. They might even make you feel more secure.

Heavy rain, wind and lightning this morning and it's not going to let up before quitting time. I don't mind riding wet usually, but I still dislike starting out wet and it was difficult to roll out this morning. I'm on the right bike this time, but I still need to put a rain-cape top on if I'm going to keep riding it in this weather.

I don't have any problem justifying nice pedals. Contact points are where I splurge and that's one of them. But I feel like I'm all set. I got the $6 pedals because what have I got to lose? At least I got cleats out of it. That's still half the price of just a set of Shimano cleats, it's even two bucks less than the Nashbar cleats. And maybe if I ever bother to adjust the bearings they will be fine too... I'd picked up the old used ones on a lark, with no specific plan when or which bike to install them. I'll put off buying nice new until a) I feel the old Shimanos aren't good enough and ii) I decide to stick with clipless at all.

i was on vacation for TWO WHOLE WEEKS (which was awesome) but commutes have been good since then. A few drenchers, but mostly dry, and the bike commuter numbers are growing steadily.

My evening commute on Monday was a complete clusterfutz, a train having derailed in N.Y.Penn Station that morning, disabling half of the tracks. Hours later when I got there most trains had been cancelled and the rest postponed. I got home 4½ hours late. I didn't even go in yesterday with trains running on a weekend schedule, delays and crowding. But i went in today. Delays and crowds as expected, good times.

Classic "pea soup" fog this morning, my lights creating this island of light around my bike, beyond which I couldn't see anything.

Cool, 3C/37F, but comfortable ride in at 5:15am to do some overtime and get the project finished by 10am. Strong breeze from the east which amounts to 2/3 of my ride in (admittedly short today, 4km/2.5mi) and some snow pellets blowing into my face.

Quite rainy yesterday afternoon. My wife bailed me out again, but I had to go pick up my other bike from the shop anyway. They cleaned it up like new. And I rode it on wet roads this morning to get it dirty again. Oh well.

About 55F this morning and only supposed to get up to 60. But with clear, sunny skies I don't see how it won't get warmer than that. It was 75 yesterday with clouds and rain.

Woke up early intending to tack on an extra 11 miles on top of my normal commute. Discovered it was 31°F with a strong wind. Decided to split the difference and only rode 2.5 extra miles.

When I see potential for a dangerous situation and take the lane to mitigate it, I'll never understand the mindset of some drivers who interpret that as a signal to pull left into oncoming traffic and pass me.

I was running late last night, heading for a meeting at my coop, so I rode hard. I'm terrible at that kind of riding, trying to reduce my travel time. I don't pedal in spurts. I keep the same level of effort the whole way, and I got home exhausted. My whole evening was very uncomfortable. I felt so bad that I thought I might be taking a sick day today, but I felt better when I woke up.

The weather forecast calls for very heavy rain, up to two inches, plus heavy winds. There are rainy days when I could or should ride, but this is not one of them. I did my wife a favor and drove her car to have the mechanic check it out. Driving sucks, and it's worse in the rain. But here I am. 80% of life is showing up for work, right? Well, I showed up, so yay me.

Been having lots of high winds yesterday and today, so I drove the car yesterday. Went ahead and took the e-bike today. I did my first 5 battery charges to 100% but now am charging to 80%, and I'm a bit disappointed with what seems to be noticeably less battery range. Friday I just about ran the battery dead, hoping I didn't damage it or anything.

My wife wants to move to a bigger house (+1 br and bigger yard) in a nicer neighborhood (OV, developed 30-40 years ago but unincorporated, seems to be descending into suburban blight for lack of city planning and pride). This would effectively end bike commuting for me, or make it a rare treat. I'm not feeling secure enough in my employer's local future to really get on board with the idea.

Some sprinkles this morning and nearly hit a turkey on the bike trail this morning. Very pleasant actually.

*phew* barely got home with 45 volts remaining, with LOTS of head/cross winds! No problems at all otherwise.

A very nice uneventful commute this morning. The temp was 37f degrees when I left the house and I felt warm going outside setting up my bike, I thought I did not need my hat. I soon found out I did(cold ears) so I stopped and put it on.

I had a good tail wind for the first half or so of my ride home yesterday. So much that I was averaging close to 20mph at the half way point. Then I turned into more of a cross wind, but still managed to have an overall average of 18.5. I think that's my fastest or maybe second fastest average speed for a ride home.

A little cold snap this morning at 45F, so I grabbed the jacket and gloves and was fine. Four deer crossed the MUP about 20-30 yards in front of me this morning.

Getting lighter out in the morning. I was able to turn my flashlight off about halfway through my run. In a few weeks I probably won't even need to take it with me.

33°F with a light tailwind for my ride to work. A warm front is moving in. Supposed to be 65° for the ride home tonight, but with the front comes strong headwinds at 25+ mph.

Damn! I had to press the EASY button today by taking the car. Woke up to about 5 cm of snow/ice on the ground. Under normal circumstances I might still have ridden, but the wind was upwards of 60 km/h, and the snow was still coming down. After seeing the condition of the roads outside my own neighbourhood it reaffirmed my decision. WTF? It's April!

BTW, forecast calls for 20*C+ on Monday.

It seemed cold, after this nice spring. I'm in denial sticking with shorts and a jersey and my road bike, waiting for the flood to subside on the Greenway.
