Weird morning - wet from overnight rains and I left early to avoid looming thunderstorms. Overnight a HUGE tree fell over the trail in a wooded area. This thing is easily 3 feet in diameter with 2 trunks - crawling in and out to get through. While it was raining most of the way it wasn't more than a drizzle but the closer I got to downtown the darker it got. By the time I got within a few blocks of work it was black. Within 5 minutes of getting inside it opened up. To confirm how scary it was I cut almost 4 minutes off my normal time! I'm not sure my luck will hold for a dry ride home!

49F, partly cloudy. 1 deer, 2 bunnies, 1 slug

I live a little over a mile from my office, so not much of a commute. I did have a car honking at me and getting on me for running red lights. He apparently isn't aware of the Idaho Stop (Idaho Code § 49-720). Maybe I should bring some copies along in my backpack to share the next time I see him!

78, muggy and windy. Whew going to be a hot one this afternoon.
|
rainy **** :(

I would love a day of 59F. Probably a couple of months off still though.
A pretty warm and muggy morning at 75F. I think I'm riding a bit slower in the heat, but that's okay. Just racking up the miles! |
Nice and cool commute to work today. First one for the week.
Will be keeping an eye on the weather for the ride back home. Thunderstorms are expected later today. |
Pretty nice this morning and a day's break from rain. I realized yesterday on the ride home how great it is that former railroads were built up higher than road level. I was cruising along watching cars slog through flooded streets... hee hee

I drafted a roadie this morning - he'd passed me earlier and when I caught up at the YMCA (there's a natural slowdown there) he turned around and said "You ready? To take off?" I just said "sure go for it!" I know, drafting on the MUP, fixed gear, too fast for a MUP, maybe not advisable but ... he was riding considerately and it was only around 20 mph so I got a kick out of it.

arsprod, so you commute on a rail trail? Lucky! I love rail trails.
wphamilton, that was well played all around. No guilt necessary, and it sounds like fun. |

Last Tuesday 4th of July I decided to ride to the town where I work, then rode through town and back home a different way. I've never seen the town square so deserted before. Total miles was a little longer than my normal commute round trip, but all in one ride. Then I rode Wednesday and Friday on the e-bike. Tried to commute yesterday but overslept, so today I took the road bike. Uneventful commute, mid-70's and super muggy at 6 AM.

PR on my favorite fire road segment! Yay. 3 mins 10 secs and 15 mph, which is only 11 mph off KOM pace

the annual so-called "arts" fest started today. No good routes to work from my house. I used the closest back street, and it was totally infested with ******* motorist arts fest attendees. Going up the main drag tomorrow, it worked pretty well when I tried it 2 years ago.

Last night felt hot; 93-92 degrees, which meets the definition of hot is "10 degrees warmer than you're used to." Last week was really nice, overcast, dry (OK 60%), and highs around 80.
This morning was much nicer at 76 degrees; I made a 2 mile diversion to celebrate! |
Went home at 1:30 due to nanny's pinched disc. Was to meet mommy at her favorite cafe but it's closed for renovations so she went home, gifting me another 20 min of ride time.

The ride back home yesterday was dry. The storm got delayed enough for me to make it home just in time.
However, the ride in to work today was not so dry. It started off dry but halfway through it started to rain. It was a good trial by water ( ;) ) for my timbuk2 backpack. My work clothes stayed dry in the inside pocket. The socks and underwear at the bottom of the bag also stayed dry. It was just the top pocket on the outside that got wet, but that contains only toiletries, so that was ok. On the plus side, I think I really enjoy riding in the rain! Averaged 17.8mph and hit a few PRs too :speedy: Looking forward to the ride back home. Weather predicts 9mph winds from NE, which would be helpful! |
Two part ride with a stop at the gym. Plenty warm out there and getting over 90 each afternoon. We had a daily afternoon storm or at least cloud cover last week, but not so this week. Just hot. The 15-16mph breeze (created by me) helps.

Its definately hotter today. Was 81F already by 8am. wunderground.com claims its only going up to 92F but I'm doubting it. But maybe off and on rain might keep the temp in check. I saw a guy at the top of Ft Lee Rd hill with the same bike as me (Orbea). I said "nice bike!" :) I think it was a little newer than mine but close to same style and color scheme.

Been forgetting/too busy to post. Third bike commute this week, all pretty uneventful. Cool mornings, warm afternoons, low winds, nice riding.
|
Very wet and humid heading to 90 today though probably thunderstorms for the ride home. On the ride home yesterday under darkening skies I was barely able to pass an older lady on a hybrid - she was bookin'! When I turned off to my neighborhood she shouted that I was lucky, she still had another 1.5 miles to home. Amazing how dark skies (fear) can motivate!

63F overcast

Skipped the ride today due to logistics at home time... wife has a softball game at 6:30
|
it's BC Superweek, which means daily pro races in Vancouver and the burbs. I've seen some expen$ive bikes and some giant quads on my commutes.
Watched the Tour de Gastown last night and then hammered it home with my 2 kids on the tandem+trailabike. So fun! This was after a blazing commute, so my legs are tired. |
Ride home yesterday felt slower than usual, despite getting a little help from wind. When I got home I realized I had left my keys at work. I had no car, house or office keys, or bike lock or e-bike battery keys. So I had to charge my e-bike battery with it still attached to the bike (I usually remove it and place it on the kitchen tile floor). And that also meant being forced to ride to work again this morning, which I was going to do anyway. E-bike this time, nice and swift. :) *edit* also stopped near the office to make sure a turtle got across the road safely.
