I just passed 2K last week. I could have been at 3K by now if backpain would have not prevented me from riding earlier this year. But since then I moved to a recumbent and I hope that back pain is history. Maybe next year. But then mid next year our company will be moving offices and the now 16 mile daily commute becomes a 10 mile daily commute. I will have to find some extra miles then...

good on you for figuring out what your body needs. i finally got rid of drop bars and it made a world of difference for me. i also realized any gear inches that have 3 digits (100+) are completely pointless for me. in fact 90 is about my realistic top.

Also according to my StravistiX plugin on Chrome, I'm over 1,000 miles up over last year on my YTD total, largely in part to my e-bike which allows me to commute much more often. And probably 80% of my riding is transportational, directly replacing car use.

too true!

Awesome distances everyone. I'm just over 3,300 too (oh, wait, thats kms, never mind). This year has been a lower one for me, I'm normally above 4,000km and with the snow and ice on the ground, I'm commuting a shorter distance and only 2-3x/wk so I won't make the 4k mark.

A friend has surpassed last year's mark of 7,200km and may even hit 8,000km by the end of the year (he lives in Toronto so little if any snow, so far anyway).

Congrats! I barely made a thousand miles. I am 61 also with COPD from smoking two packs of cigs for about 50 years. I finally quit in March 2015. I planned on commuting all summer but didn't. It's about 23 miles round trip so it would have added up. In my younger days I would have at least two thousand miles in before RAGBRAI at the end of July. I'm losing my touch but I plan on doing better next year. It's nice today and I'm at work but I rode at lunchtime and plan on riding this weekend since it's supposed to be above freezing.

More power to us all!

23 miles is a serious commute man! does cycling help the copd?

I'm getting a head start on preparing for my new years resolution.

5000 miles in the saddle, and 20 books read.

I think the mileage will be more difficult to manage...but I'm honestly not sure. If I keep commuting, and do a couple group rides a week, I could blow past it.

good stuff

that sounds like some good goals. :thumb:
I have surpassed my goal of 5000 miles for this year, more rides with my son ,and more mountain bike rides. It is not close to the 6535 I had last year though.

I had the goal of 30 books but I am currently at 46 books for the year. (that includes some audio books) I was able to listen to books while working at old job. :innocent:
