Just broke 3000 miles for the year

i know its not a lot compared to some but its my second year in a row and i feel really great. i turned 61 this year and i feel as healthy as i ever have. plenty of aches and pains but able to do most anything i put my mind to. most of my miles are commuting but a significant portion is touring. want to do a lot more of that soon!

just had to share because it means a lot to me..... ty for letting me be a part of the community.

Congrats!:thumb: Three k-miles is nothing to scoff at...and you still got another 1.5 months to go.

Congrats, 52tele! I feel so much better when I ride regularly. :thumb:

Funny, I'm at 2,966 today, so I'll hit 3,000 this week. It's really good for me, since my goal for the entire year was originally 2,500 miles.

yeah, but your really good looking too so less is expected of you.

seriously, awesome riding my friend.

Well done fellas! It is incredible how healthy and strong I feel just from commuting to work. If I have time for nothing else that day I still feel great. Tonight on the way home I will pass 5,500 miles.

Same to you!

I just upped the weight on my barbell. I was deadlifting 83 pounds. Now I'm deadlifting 113 pounds. I've done it a few times today. I went out and ran a bit while doing errands instead of walking. That impulse rarely comes to me.

i can't run around the block and my lifting is reserved for guitars and scotch.

Congrats Russell!:thumb:

See, that's just it. I've also been unable to run all my life. Now the ability is coming slowly. I jog for half a block and walk for half a block. But it doesn't kill me with pain the way it did previously.

when i deliver meals to the elderly i will jog up driveways and such but sustained running kills my back and agrivates my sciatica. riding just makes me feel good

noglider 11-18-17 05:27 PM

Oh, sciatica. I can empathize. I had that years ago. It's horrible. Walking is good.

bobwysiwyg 11-18-17 07:27 PM

Congratulations! Feeling ashamed. Set my goal of 3,000 back in January. Only recently broke 2,000 😕 so my goal is clearly not going to be met this year.

Wow nice job. I’m currently knocking on the door of 3500...but you’ve got a couple decades on me. I hope I’m still going as strong as you at 61.

When I started running last year, I brought the dog with me so I had an excuse to stop when the dog wanted to stop to pee (at almost every post). Later on, I left the dog at home because he would slow me down. Don't fray for the dog though, I did take him out for a walk after my run during my cool down :)

52telecaster 11-18-17 10:57 PM

thanks for all the well wishing. i dont care how much or little you ride. i just like folks that take a stab at it. they are much less likely to run over a cyclist!

a1penguin 11-18-17 10:57 PM

Congrats! You live where there is real weather and fewer "nice weather" biking days.

well my commute isnt that long but i do ride in all weather. some days it seems really awful but it always feels good on the ride home/

PatrickGSR94 11-20-17 03:03 PM

Friday I hit 3,000 commuting miles, and it was also my 100th commuting day of 2017. Fitting, since my normal RT commute is 30 miles.

RubeRad 11-20-17 05:19 PM

Good job; you're a bit ahead of me, I haven't checked lately, but expect to hit around 2500ish for the year.

wow that's a serious commute!

mgw4jc 11-21-17 07:43 AM

Congrats on the 3,000! Consistency is what gets the numbers up there over the weeks, months and years.
