Does anyone else get frustrated with these signs?

First time I see this so nope for me. Although I'm always careful when passing on the 'inside' not to be right hooked.

The blog you link to is misquoting the signs.

Signs warning cyclists not to pass large vehicles on the inside are becoming quite common in the UK.

And a good thing too.

Many of the cycle fatalities that have happened in London over recent years have been caused by cyclists riding up the inside of a large vehicle that is about to turn.

With the best will in the world, the driver of a large vehicle can't be constantly checking their inside mirror for cyclists putting themselves in a dangerous position while also looking ahead and steering. And there are big blind spots on these vehicles.

These signs are good. They are not a sign of a badly driven vehicle. Rather, they are an important reminder to cyclists of the dangers and to take responsibility for their own safety.

Passing on the right is almost always a stupid idea in countries where slower traffic stays to the right.

The wording is strange. I assume this means you should beware of passing cars on the left(UK)/right(US). I consider this to be one thing the cyclist must be aware of. In the US cars are not allowed to pass other cars on the right. So drivers are not as aware of looking on their right where the bike lane is when they make a right hand turn.

The danger at a light/stop sign intersection is worse, especially when people do not use their turn signal. I will bike past a line of stopped cars at a light and have it turn green. At that point I NO LONGER PASS CARS, but start watching the ones in front of me and will slow down and give them the opportunity to turn. I've had a couple of semi-close calls and strictly adhere to this rule even if I have to stop. Cyclists must adhere to the same rules of the road as cars, so technically, it is illegal for bikes to pass on the right.

As an auto driver myself, I often start thinking about my driving habits and I suspect I am also guilty of not looking in the bike lane for cyclists before I make a right hand turn when I start moving when the light turns green. However, I ALWAYS USE MY TURN SIGNAL. Except when I change my mind at the last minute, which is probably not an uncommon situation for drivers.

I do find that there are drivers who are very considerate of cyclists and wave me by and I always nod and wave a hand to thank them.

You know what really makes me angry? Cyclists who are biking the wrong way in a bike lane! I am trying to alway give a quick last look to ensure there is no illegal cyclist that I might hit.

Defensive driving avoids fender benders; defensive cycling keeps you alive. I hope that driver's training classes these days do a better job of teaching drivers to be aware of peds/bikes than my classes did back in the stone age when I was in high school.

The old cliche of the "but s/he had the right of way" on your tombstone applies.
