A very nice uneventful commute this am with the temp at 31 f degrees and cloudy skies. The forecast is for scattered showers in the pm but I have not ridden enough lately so I am willing to risk the showers.
|
A comfortable 47F with overcast skies this morning. I got 13.75 miles with the last two on the MUP ending near my office. That's always a nice way to end the ride as it's mostly downhill so I just enjoy the view and watch for the couple of folks walking their dogs.

Crazy dame in a car pulled to the end of the driveway, looked at me, looked the other way, and kept on going. She had that "look" that made me hit my brakes. Not to toot my own horn (or is that, ring my own bell?), but a less experienced cyclist would have been injured or killed.
Other than that, nice commute on a beautiful day. Clear, cool, and I didn't notice the gentle tailwind until I had to turn back into it for the last quarter mile. |

50F, drizzle. Was so nice to have yesterday's dry warm day. May have some more of those next week, but not the rest of this week. Actually, warm-ish yes (50s), dry no.

30°F this AM - had a dusting of snow that the sun was already melting on my ride in.
|
A hell of a week so far but nothing to do with cycling
|
Another nice uneventful commute in this am. There was a light rain when I left work yesterday but I added a few extra miles into the ride anyway and was happy I didn't extend the ride longer because by the time I got home it was a getting heavier. I wiped down the chain after riding and put on some lubricant. Today I am going to watch a youtube video on how to clean the rear derailleur.

Stars and a thin crescent moon, no noticeable wind... nice morning. But somehow it doesn't quite feel like Spring yet.
|
32F, sunny, little bit of a headwind. Warmer temps forecast for this afternoon - Spring is a tease

38F this morning. I think it was the first morning in nearly four months I didn't need to wear my winter gloves. And I packed shorts for my ride home as it's supposed to be pushing 50 degrees. Woohoo! We're supposed to get another blizzard on Friday so I'll have to enjoy today's temps while I can.
Ran into an acquaintance on the MUP. It was just coincidence as I happened to be heading to a downtown client, and he happened to be scheduled for jury duty. Otherwise we would have been riding in different directions. As we were talking his phone fell out of his pocket and hit the pavement. We stopped and he rode back to pick it up. It appeared to be undamaged. He snapped a photo as we rode to ensure it was still working. https://scontent.ffsd1-1.fna.fbcdn.n...fe&oe=5B5C41D2 |
A little nippier than I thought, but a nice ride in anyhow. Clear blue sky, calm wind, bright sunshine hitting all the azaleas and dogwoods that grow in afternoon shadow and are just now hitting their peak. Brilliant white and pink dogwoods, mostly red azaleas but there were a few delicate purple bushes. It was the kind of morning I wanted to be touring, so I could keep riding all day.

46°F or so when I headed out, but above-freezing overnight temps encouraged me to take the rando bike instead of the still-studded fixed-gear. It felt like I was riding a motorcycle! Yay, spring! :D
|
I checked the weather before I left, but it was wrong and 5 degrees warmer than I expected at 54F because the sun broke out as soon as I left the house. Too hot to wear my jacket, instantly regretted it but soldiered on. Brisk headwinds over Lake Washington, no surprise the only PRs I set were on climbs.
|
Yesterday AM was cold and wet, and in the PM it was sunny and warm. I'm either wearing a bunch of clothes or carrying a bunch of clothes these days!
|
I did this some biking today for the first time again and after 20 minutes my quads cramped after. Seems like I have to do a lot of biking again to regain my conditioning. :D

First commute of the year, and it showed. 16.4 miles, slow as molasses, HR trending too high. 45°F and a nice tailwind going in, 1:18 eh not bad. 73°F and 20 mph headwind on way home. Almost getting blown off the road, along with school zone torture, 1:33. Time to ride my alternate route on way home, at least until school lets out.
I just finished upgrading my old school Raleigh Technium 440 to 2x10 drivetrain with 4600 shifters and 32 mm tires for bad weather commutes. Can't imagine how slow i will be on it. |
First commute of the year 2018 with a cold weather. I even wore extra covers for my upper and my legs as well.
|
Another nice commute in today, and I was able to extend the ride a little. The temp was 32 f degrees when I left the house. Yay for daylight coming earlier!
|
Three returning riders in a row! I hope Ryan, mac, and kanye stick with it!
48F for the ride in. Just fine. I had to drive yesterday and noticed more than normal traffic and even had to reroute a bit based on some back-ups. When I got to work I learned a truck's trailer had caught fire (accident I guess) and the interstate was closed, sending everyone looking for alternate routes. And a couple of accidents coming from the other direction made everything worse. Many were late to work as a result. |
Great job everyone on your first commutes of the year!
Today was another warm morning at 38°F. Supposed to push 50°F this afternoon so I wore shorts again today for the second time. Yesterday was the first day my legs saw daylight since November. Used my Airzound for the first time in a couple of years. I was coming down a hill running about 20 mph when a car from the left turned off a side street directly into my path. It was pretty obvious the kid didn't even slow down or look. I veered over onto the shoulder and hit the horn. He started looking around and was horrified to see my scowling face staring into his passenger window. He jammed on his brakes. I looked back and saw him give the "sorry, I'm an idiot" wave. Then he drove really slow behind me for 1/4 mile until he turned down a different road. |
Forgot to mention the patch of gravel that just about took me out this morning. They're doing some utility work or something in a couple of different places and had to tear up the road. That part is easily seen and avoided, but they seem to have dropped some gravel at the entrance to a neighborhood that I turn left into. I'm usually riding fastish through there because of some downhill momentum.
I had mostly turned, but realized I was heading into this patch of loose gravel (some walnut sized). Luckily, I had some room to straighten up and slow down enough to flow / bump through it before finishing the turn. If I had hit it much faster and/or turning any sharper, I would have been picking gravel out of my leg and hip. And just as luckily, it didn't cause a flat. |
Nice ride today. Temp was 32°F with wet roads after raining all night, but it wasn't raining for my commute. God bless nice fenders. They worked great for me today. :thumb:

38F, clammy, bright, for now. Supposed to get an inch of rain later.

Another nice ride in, but my autopilot overrode the rest of my brain.
Started a bit late, and the brain said take another route. Autopilot got me to the school zone 5 minutes before school started. Yeesh. It's like traffic jams at NASCAR.

I really only needed one pannier yesterday and today for the load in, but the second was useful for carrying all the extra clothes home. |
