37F, headwind, beautiful sunrise. We had a windstorm here Saturday, tornado level winds and still lots of areas without power. The wooded parts of the MUP were a mess - some huge trees down and some overhanging branches that look like they're just about to fall. Kinda spooky in the dark.

People were smiling and greeting me this morning, which happens much more often when I'm wearing street clothes like today. It's the one upside of this weather in the 30's, that I can dress for work and add a windbreaker and be comfortable if I'm going easy.

On the downside, it was the first time in about 4 years that I considered driving in because I may have over-done the long run yesterday. My knees were already feeling weak and on the verge of collapse, but I felt good and extended it for several miles ... and now I needed to take it very easy on the bike ride. Hopefully I will recover some during the work-day.

Traffic here was frenetic this morning here too. One lady blocked my lane instead of yielding, then gunned it before I was clear. Funnily enough, I was waiting at the same traffic light as she was half a mile later. I guess I slowed her down, but I certainly didn't delay her.

Temperature when I left was somewhere between 33 and 36F, depending on who I decide to believe. In between dodging crazy women in Cadillacs I watched Goofy (the Garmin)'s temperature sensor decide it wasn't 69F any more, it was 61... 54... finally bottomed out about 38 and then warmed up to 40. The north wind from yesterday evening had died down, so a little sunlight warmed things up fairly quickly.

My ride in this morning was in temperatures in the 30's. They're predicting a high of almost 60 by the time I ride home,

631 consecutive work commutes ... That's an impressive number.

Low 40s with a little wind this morning. Wore full fingered gloves for the first time this season. I probably won't need them going home, but I didn't bring the half fingered ones.

It's almost time for me to end my commuting season for the year. It's been a good one though, with 56 days of commute, totaling more than 2000 commute miles.
Last Friday I felt encouraged to take my bike because the evening temps were going to hit 60s. However, the chilly below 30 temps in the morning froze my butt off and I decided that I will bike commute only if the temps are above 40 and that too before the daylight savings time comes to an end. I don't want to share the road in the dark with people in a hurry to get home. It's different in the morning because there are far less people on the road between 6 and 7 AM.

Anyway, hats off to all of you who commute no matter what. Keep on rolling.

Yesterday, I took a fun group ride along the Old Croton Aqueduct trail, and I rode my Lemond, a bike ill-suited for that trail, but I made it work. My daughter's boyfriend came along, too, and I loaned my commuting bike. He ended up flying over the handlebars after hitting a rut he didn't see. I'll check out the bike, but I think it's fine. It seemed prudent to ride my Lemond to work today, since I knew it's in good shape.

Yesterday was insanely windy and a bit cold, so today's cold weather seemed mild by comparison. It was 41F when I left for work. I had a mild tailwind. I barely remember the ride, so I'll conclude it was a pleasant one.

A pleasant uneventful commute in today the temp was at 37 f degrees.

Nice, almost cool ride home yesterday afternoon. The afternoon highs now happen well before 5pm and the temp drops with the sun.

And just a fine ride in this morning. Been seeing the same lady walking on the MUP, close to the same spot too. She is in the middle of the path with slightly more room on the right, so I pass right. Yesterday I think she heard me crunching leaves and I said Good Morning as I passed. Today though she had a hood on and maybe earphones. I gave her a fright and she gasped as I passed. I said, "Sorry." I guess she didn't hear me this time.

Ah c'mon, don't stop! Like the Canadians say, there's no bad weather just bad gear! 42F this morning. Still a lot of debris on the MUP from weekend windstorm and while DPW has done a good job of clearing pathways it was scary in the dark. Think I'll use this as an excuse to get a more powerful headlight.

High overcast and cool weather, but still a nice day for a ride. I keep waiting to see signs of fall, but the only leaves that have fallen turned brown on the way down.

Personally, I can't wait for the end of DST. I'd rather have light in the morning (when drivers are half asleep) and not have to worry about the glare in the evening. My preference is to avoid the half hour after sunset, and the half hour before sunset. If I can't avoid those times, I'd rather have the sun either behind me or at 90 degrees to me, and some of my home-bound routes I can't do that.

Someone said he keeps a spreadsheet that lists the clothes he wears at each temperature range. I thought, I don't need that. But I'm going to make one, because when the weather changes, I can't remember what works. I did fine yesterday, but I was too hot today, and it makes me ride more slowly than I would.

I guess I wasn't quite awake this morning. I rode two blocks along my normal route before I realized I needed to go the other way to stop at the post office first. Then on the way to the post office, I overshot it by one block. No big deal, though.

I'm still on my racing bike, and I think I ought to ride it more often, especially now that I'm comfortable wearing a backpack. It's a fun bike, and it makes climbing so easy.

I don't like the short daylight hours of the fall, but I do enjoy the weather. It's dry, and the air pressure is high.

But even that varies depending on how late it is into Winter! For example I wore leg warmers this morning, but I wouldn't want to in a couple of months, in the same conditions. So you'll need to track the dates also :innocent:

Freakin' late getting up again, but I rode anyway dangit! I set 3 alarms 5, 5:05 and 5:30 but still didn't get out of bed until 6:35 :mad: Only a few minutes late to work so it's okay. 45F-ish, with temps near 70 this afternoon.

My wife and I tried bike share bikes for the first time in Nashville back in March. We did 7 miles near the Cumberland river, which was a nice ride. The first bike I got had a sticky rear hub and was really tough to deal with. Then I swapped bikes at the turnaround point and got a much easier rolling bike. What a huge difference! 3 minute wait to get another bike, that's sort of odd. I don't think we had to do that with the Nashville B-Cycle system.

I don't like the three-minute wait. It may be a disincentive to have an extended ride, as we annual members are allowed a 45-minute ride. But does it work? Clearly not with me.

Yeah like the wheel would barely spin freely. 1st gear felt like 2nd gear in terms of effort required, and 2nd like 3rd.

I think we purchased the 1-day pass for like 5 bucks, and max rides were an hour, but putting a bike back in and getting another bike before the hour was free. So we rode to the other end of the trail where there was another docking station and I was able to trade out bikes with a different one. I checked for the rear wheel spinning freely on the bikes in the dock before I made a selection.

I managed to do some maintenance on my bikes last night to go from two inoperational ones to two options. Decided to take my road bike, sporting new Planet Bike Cascadia fenders. The air was foggy and dense, my Garmin says the temperature actually dropped during my ride, and I made crap time, but at least I didn't regret wearing my LG soft shell for the first time this season.

Thanks for the encouragement, but I am just not able to enjoy these cold, dark rides as much. I will try and sneak in a ride every now and then

I guess I've been in Southern California long enough now that I'm just like all the other folks here who freak out at actual weather. I noticed the marine layer this morning, and thought, oooh, it's gonna be cool and wet. So I broke out the tights and another layer on top ... Didn't quite overheat, but I was a little warmer than I needed to be.

The commute was not as pleasant as could be as my front light when out again not even half way into the ride. I do not like this light as it is difficult for me to take it off my handlebars so I can charge it.

On the good news front I have a two brand new rear lights as I purchased a new one and Niterider sent me a brand new one.. I told the clerk in the bike shop about my issue with the old light and he suggested I call niterider and tell them. I did call Niterider. I was told to send them the light which I did, and they replaced it with a brand new light.
