I had to hang out some bike clothes laundry before I left home this morning. It's been a nice week; one heavy LS jersey and three SS jerseys on the line. This was another short sleeve day, temp was in the upper 60s. We're supposed to get a cold front start to come through tonight, so there was some high overcast, but I'll take even filtered sunshine!

It was a nice ride in today from home. I ran into and had a chat with Bob and Lea after the bridge. I took it a little easy by trying to stay a gear lower and spin a little more on the ride in. Just want to leave something in the tank for the ride back. The weather report last claimed that there might be some rain around 6pm. So I might just catch that toward the end of the trips back. Will see. But it is a better day to do the full ride in since its light traffic (Friday) and not as hot as yesterday.

50F, clearing skies. 16 mile commute to the west of home for a meeting (vs usual 6 mile commute to the east for the office that I have lately been detouring to a 12 mile scenic route). Some serious hills on this route that my 12 mile scenic route pretty cleanly avoids, probably good to remember what that is like and why I have a small chainring too; also, meeting hosts have a locker room so I took them up on the offer of a shower which feels great

I did my 12.6 mile ride from my home to work today.

Toward the end of my ride, someone in an expensive SUV ROARED past me. Like probably 50+mph in a 30mph zone. I reached my destination, and thought I would ride around the parking lot to see if I could find the vehicle. There he was, parked in his pricey vehicle. The look on his face as I rolled up, dismounted, and waited for him to roll down his window was priceless, I tell you.

It feels like I rode twice the distance today due to the headwind, that should still be a headwind on my way home.

I've got a nice 3-mile downhill commute on the way into work. I love the cool, overcast Portland mornings we're having. Saw another guy on a Trek Portland and wanted to talk to him but he was too fast. Also saw numerous good dogs.

I feel like I just sat on my bike this morning due to the tailwind... too bad it only happens ~5% of the time.

This mornings commute was a nice uneventful ride even with all the fog outside. It is very foggy out this am but light was up so I decided to ride as I hate missing out on riding.

Got a new backpack so I could get back to it. Backpack works great. Today’s morning ride was clear skies and 54° was a nice ride.

Yes backpacks are convenient and can hold a good amount. They are pretty comfortable too. But if it gets hot out and if you have a long enough commute, they become less nice. I use a seat post mounted trunk and add a backpack only when I have to carry more than that will hold.

A nice 53F for my ride in. Squirrels were busy crossing the streets (well, 2 of them anyway).

Yeah, I use backpacks only for the convenience factor, and don't mind even when it's warm out. My commutes not too long, but can see how it would be uncomfortable for long commutes.

Beautiful morning today, The house was warmer than it was outside, a reminder that it's still spring; but the longer I rode, the better it felt.

There were a couple spots with unexpectedly heavy traffic, places I normally see one or two cars but there were half a dozen. Still not so bad I need a 6' stick with shiny nails pointing out, mounted cross-wise on the rack. Yet.

Nice morning today, 59F and sunny. 10 miles with no wind and crushed it going up the bridge. It took the rest of the ride to cool down.

Today was one of the nicest rides in I've had in a while.

I HAVE to learn to just ignore el-bikes, otherwise I'll end up hating them ... that annoying sound of the electrical engine right on your back awaiting for the next uphill to pass you like it was nothing .. grrr
Some say they are limited to 25 km/h... BS, a guy followed me today, me on my roady, he in wahtever el-crap he was riding, at 35-40 km/h for some 4-5 km flat, then came the hill and there he goes.. gggrrrrr.
hehe ... trying to look at the bright side, I end up pushing myself a little harder to chase them and I'm look so mucg forward to see one of them running out of battery one of these days, hehe

Same here

It was another foggy commute this am with the temp at 44 f degrees when I left the house. I was under dressed for the cold so I rode the shortest ride because I was cold.

esmith2039 05-08-18 06:19 AM

Trying to get going.. not even at 600 miles for the year. Was at over 1500 this time last year! Pretty pleasant ride despite feeling like crud. The neighbor blood hound was kept me up almost every night. Need to get in shape for the Katy trail again in June.

Amitoj 05-08-18 06:21 AM

Mid 40s and quite foggy. I kept rubbing my glasses to check if it really was fog and not just my glasses :p

mgw4jc 05-08-18 06:39 AM

I left at 6am and went to the gym before work. It was light enough even then that I didn't need my lights to see. I did turn them on though for the sake of visibility. Some rain late yesterday evening made for some wet spots, but the roads were mostly dry.

A very comfortable 58F for the morning ride.

Tundra_Man 05-08-18 07:16 AM

Consecutive work commute number 522:

Rain. Lots of rain. So I took the hybrid with fenders and it wasn't too bad. The only mistake I made was wearing socks. I've found if I wear socks in the rain my feet get even wetter as the socks wick in the moisture like a sponge. My feet stay much drier if I don't wear socks in the rain.

I knew this too. Just completely spaced it until I was about 1/4 mile from home and felt that first bit of moisture start to seep in from my ankles.

A bit chilly this morning at 46F. A guy on an e-bike went flying by me, had to be doing 25+ mph. Besides pissing me off (that I can't go that fast) I'm wondering how these jibe with no motorized vehicles on MUP's. There aren't any posted speed limits on our trails either. Anyone have any wisdom before I contact city government with my rant?

No real wisdom, but I frequently have a similar situation. There's a guy that regularly passes me on an e-assisted fat bike at 20+ mph. He wears street clothes and doesn't look like he's exerting any effort. Other than jealousy, the only issue I have is that he can come up really quick behind me and he doesn't announce himself, so he'll startle me on occasion.

Our MUP has signs saying "no motorized vehicles" but I'll see e-bikes and motorized skateboards and other similar devices out there. We also have a (non-posted) 15 mph speed limit, that I'll admit I break on occasion, especially if I have a tail wind. For the most part, these rules aren't enforced. The only time I can imagine they would be is if a violator happened to be in view of the occasional cop patrolling the MUP and were also riding recklessly around other MUP users. I seriously doubt they'd pull anyone over for riding 20 mph on some of the long, empty stretches of trail that we have.

So for the most part I just ignore the e-bike guy. I tell myself that he's taking the easy way out as I sweat and unsuccessfully try to keep up.
