The warmest morning of 2018 and first morning wearing shorts - 63F!

Amitoj 05-02-18 10:29 AM

Happy to report my first bike commute of the year today! Low 50s but the ride back home will be in 80+ weather. Couple of days back the maximum temp had not crossed even 50!

aplcr0331 05-02-18 11:38 AM

Pretty good, a little chilly but I could always dress warmer.

Nice little round trip today. Tomorrow will be the first daycare run on the new MTB and we’ll see how much the big knobbies slow us down

A very nice uneventful commute in this am with the temps in the 60's and cloudy skies.

Gorgeous day out this morning & my first bike commute since last September!
Was a great ride, warm & beautiful weather, courteous drivers & no close passes!

And then you woke up?

It was quite the nice morning here too. About 62F and clear skies. I left a little early and managed 15 miles on the way in.

Nice Allez Sprint you have there! Post it over in this thread (if you haven't already done so):

I had a really nice ride in today. 73F is awsome for the morning and its not too humid. But 90F later on might be a bit of a shake and bake. Will see... Rode in with Bob the his wife so it was nice to chat with them. The nice and warm weather is finally here. And I'm not sneezing my head off today. ;)

Nice morning for a bike ride! 68F, light overcast, little wind, shared the roads with polite drivers. This afternoon, like yesterday, is supposed to be hot (per the Lon Haldeman definition, 10 degrees warmer than what I'm used to). Time to practice chugging water as I ride -- I forget how every winter.

noglider 05-03-18 07:32 AM

Yesterday's southwesterly wind threatened to make my ride home tough. The water on the river was very choppy. But the breeze was so unusually cool that I enjoyed it anyway. And then when I turned onto the streets, it was fun to have the wind push me up the hill.

This morning, the wind is moving in the same direction but I think it's slightly milder. I still moved fast on the way in. It seems to increase my margin of speed over others going in my direction. They don't take advantage of the push as much as I do.

Rain and dodging thunderstorms, but it was 72F! The good thing is I have the MUP to myself again. One of the regular commuters (who never says hi) stopped next to me at a street crossing and I noticed he had his water bottle covered with a rain cover. I say again - a rain cover for his water bottle... there's a new rip in the space/time continuum

This was more than the flip top lid to keep mud off the spout? (Fenders work well for me most of the time.)

It was a full wrapping of the bottle in some kind of material. I know, I'm stunned too

55F, bright, hazy (pretty sure the haze is 100% pollen)

Pure insanity.

It was hot this morning. Really hot. Hottest day of the year so far and it's going to be hotter on the way home.

AND THAT IS FINE WITH ME!!!!

It can be 100 degrees all summer as long as the never ending winter of doom is finally over!!!!

noglider 05-03-18 11:29 AM

A rain cover for a water bottle makes sense to me. My bottle gets really dirty on the nozzle/nipple/whatever.

wphamilton 05-03-18 12:53 PM

My legs felt a little sluggish yesterday, kind of worrisome. But airing up my tires I realized that I'd let it get down to under 30 psi (in 700cX25's). I think I'll blame that instead.

groovestew 05-03-18 03:04 PM

Could it be that this, my third commute this year, felt a little easier than the previous two?

Darth Lefty 05-03-18 08:15 PM

I’m exhausted. I did about 27 miles today, twice what I wanted. Dropped kiddo at daycare but was called back two hours later - he wasn’t being civil. His mom intercepted me to collect him en route and I went back to work. Then there was a meeting on the back forty. I dressed today in some coarse jeans so I’m chafed and the mileage was all on my plus-tire MTB. All with a bum ticker and seasonal allergies!

Suicide kitty strolled out in front of my bike morning, stepping nonchalantly into the beam of my headlight and paying it no mind.

Fortunately my shout of "WOAH! CAT! MOVE!" inspired him to jog a little , allowing me to miss him by a foot or so.

Little birds have been doing that, too, since it got warm. They see the patch of light and go to land on it, often getting really close to the spokes. Not really clever behavior, but then again, they're birds.

essiemyra 05-04-18 05:00 AM

This morning's commute was a nice ride to work with the temp warm enough to wear shorts and a tee-shirt. What a nice way to finish the week after the monsoon rain we had yesterday afternoon. I ended up taking a ride home with someone so I could pick up my car to get my bike. I was not riding in the monsoons. It's Friday! Yay!

mgw4jc 05-04-18 06:32 AM

May the Fourth be with you!

A nice ride with a bit of a layover at the gym this morning.

arsprod 05-04-18 08:28 AM

Didn't ride today - it's errands day (and regretting driving). I don't think I've ever done this before and if it's a violation of the thread mea culpa. It's so rare to have a great experience with an online vendor that I want to share my recent experience with https://planetcyclery.com/. I bought some Schwalbe tires from them back in February. After dinking around with one that was goofy I finally figured it was bad (not formed right and doesn’t spin without a noticeable hitch). I emailed them asking if I had any recourse with Schwalbe. Their response – immediate refund because Schwalbe won’t warrant it. That’s customer service!
