Riding home yesterday and catching both of the lights I usually have to wait for I knew the weather wouldn't be great today. But not too bad all things considered.
|
Nice rides this week. I noticed the police set up the radar device on the MUP I use. With the nicer weather more people start using it and there is a posted speed limit. Radar basically alerts you to how fast you are going. They've also put up several temporary signs that alert new users to the rules of the MUP. Saw my first eBike on Tuesday going home. Two people went buzzing by me barley peddling as they went. They were doing right at the 20 mph limit of the MUP and I heard them coming up on me. A new eBike shop just opened up along the MUP and this morning riding in I saw they put up a sign about eBike rentals. Guess I may run into a few more this summer.

Ugh. Train delayed for an hour because the train before mine hit a pedestrian on the tracks. The whole NE Corridor is stopped.
|
I "rode to work" today by doing 3 laps of Prospect Park and then worked at home. I then "rode home" by doing another 3 laps later in the day. 26 total miles today, and I rode a lot harder than I would if I were going to my office. I always used Fridays as a ride to work day, but nobody is in the office on Fridays anymore and this is a whole new way of doing it. The only thing I didn't do right is to reverse the direction of the loops since I was going the other way, from working at home to just relaxing at home. But alas the loop is one way...------->

Yeah, I often have a lot of days when I intend to ride gently, but my legs really like pedaling hard, so I usually end up going hard. I guess there's nothing wrong with the fact that my body craves exercise and that I get it. Now that my commute is only 6-1/2 miles each way, I truly can ride gently when I really want to. There is a steep hill at the end of the ride to work, but it's not long or difficult. The rest of the route is extremely flat and therefore windy. |
The ride in this am was a nice uneventful ride with the temp at 50 f degrees and gray cloudy skies. Since there are a lot of different trees in bloom right now it is very pretty scenery.

It felt about perfect this morning. Sunny, blue skies, nearly no wind and a pleasant 63°F. Man, I cherish rides like today. It's supposed to be nice like this all week, and I'd take it for the next six month.

Rain this morning. It was 58F but I felt cold in the house, I'm guessing because of the rain. As a result, I dressed a little too warm. About halfway to work I had to remove a bit of clothing.
Over lunch I'm riding to return some snowblower parts I bought a couple of weeks ago. Once I removed the old parts from the snowblower I realized that the new parts they sold me were close, but not quite the same. But the good news is after I had the old parts off I was able to fix them, so I don't need new parts anyway. I can just return the new parts and get my money back, which is good because I had a bit of sticker shock when I bought them the first time. Local bike club is again doing their annual bike-to-work-week photo scavenger hunt, so I'll probably be making a lot of detours during my commutes in order to snap pictures. Each successful photo gets you one entry into the prize drawings. Last year I managed to submit a photo for all 25 clues and wound up winning a prize. |
Apparently we're going to get 2 weeks of spring and now straight to summer. Record highs yesterday and expected today. Bring it on - I'm still thawing out from this horrible winter!
|
62F, sunny.
Rode 170 miles on 6 straight days last week, definitely feeling it toward the end (wanted to do a century Saturday, did just 50; really should have tapered during the week; instead, 24 each weekday, 2 hrs roller-skating w/ kids Friday night; if it weren't bike-commute month would have been easier to taper). Took Sunday off, felt great today! |
I had a lovely ride in. It was foggy and misty. There was no wind.
I have a new bluetooth headset which I think I like, but they catch a lot of wind, so I need to make ear fairings to attach to my helmet. I've been thinking of doing that for a long time. |

First commute of the year in shorts and short sleeved jersey today. Blue skies and sunshine, supposed high of 15C but felt quite a bit cooler with a strong breeze off the sea. |
Rode fixed for the first time this year, first time since September actually, and happily, my legs remembered how a fixie works. Totally dominated a fellow commuter on a hill...full disclosure: my "opponent" was a 10-year-old riding to school.

Got caught in the rain yesterday, but wasn’t too bad I got to test the built in rain cover for my back pack. Worked pretty slick. Today is clear and sunny 50F but supposed to be 80F for the ride home. |

Good morning for some miles to work. Through one neighborhood I noticed a bird flying about 2 feet off the ground just over the sidewalk parallel to me. He passed me and then cut across the road in front of me at about the same height. Kind of interesting to see I thought. Overcast and upper 60s for the ride in. Chances for some rain on the ride home tonight, but only about 40%. |
It's beginning to feel a lot like summer. 68-74F on the morning commute, this afternoon it's supposed to hit 90 (again). I miss spring...
Left early to make a phone call, and the light traffic was noticeable and nice. Heard a hermit thrush just up the hill above the office; beautiful song, but it needs to change its name if it's going to nest that close to 3,000 cars in the parking lot! |
55F, gray. This pushing 90F in the pm must be getting to me, felt cold this morning.

Beautiful morning. 50°F with hardly any wind. The sun was out, along with more bicycle commuters in one day than I've seen since before the snow flies. I counted 10 others along my route to work.
I took a short detour and made a few stops to snap some photos for our Bike To Work Week photo scavenger hunt. There were 29 clues released yesterday. By this morning I had already collected pictures of 18 of them, and I'm planning to snap pics of four more this afternoon on my ride across town to a client location. We set a new company record with four of us riding our bikes to work. I thought one co-worker was going to have a heart attack in the break room after he arrived, but he survived. Seeing as it was a new record we decided to snap a photo to commemorate the achievement. I'm the one that looks like a linebacker compared to the skinny people. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...95676614d2.jpg |
After moving offices a couple years ago, my commute route completely changed. Had opportunity to ride part of my old route this morning; familiar, and yet not. It was a nice, extended ride this morning under sunny skies, low winds, and 15C/60F. Lovely.

Coming home last night it was just starting to rain with heavier stuff moving in, so I was pushing for more speed. I hit a rock and popped my front tire. I changed in the spare tube in the rain, but it was old and had a slow leak so I had to limp home slow and careful stopping a few more times in the heavy rain to pump the tire up some more. I changed in a new tube at home and put in another new tube for the spare. I was distracted and rushed putting in the new tube, so I didn't get it on right. This morning I got 3 miles from home when it went flat again. I spent 20 minutes trying to pump up the new spare, but the valve was defective and could only hold about 10 PSI. I limped the bike back home and drove in to work 15 minutes late.
I'm switching to my other wheelset to try to get rid of this bad juju. |
This morning's commute was a nice uneventful ride with the temp at 51 f degrees and mostly gray skies. Though I did get some passing rain showers that lasted seconds at best.
|
53F and sunny, pretty uneventful. Just the usual no cars stopping for me at busy crosswalks
|
Pleasant 50 degrees in the morning. No leg or arm warmers. Commute back home will be in 60 degrees.
I like these 50-60 degree commutes. I don't have to deal with sweat getting into my eyes! |
Wet and a warm 66F. Ah the smells of wet spring! A women started turning into me at a downtown intersection. What a surprise, she was on her phone. I want to know who people are talking to that early in the morning

We had a severe weather warning yesterday for a thunderstorm. It came through and wreaked some havoc in the metro area, knocking down trees, etc. Luckily, I didn't have to leave until it subsided. It was raining lightly to moderately as I rode to my Tuesday rehearsal, and I didn't get terribly wet or dirty. Jeez, one of these days I will install fenders, for sure.
Here are pictures from this morning's ride in, in Riverside Park, NYC. https://ridewithgps.com/photos/3641936/large.jpg https://ridewithgps.com/photos/3641935/large.jpg |
