Yes, I've been noticing the daylight not starting until about 6am for a couple of weeks now. It was in the upper 60s here this morning. Not bad, though still humid.

Back to the Monday.

No, I get up after sunrise, but the sunset is getting earlier.

The forecast this morning called for plenty of rain, but I figured, how bad could it be? So I headed out in it, and the rain was light when I started and only slightly heavier when I finished. I got only the slightest bit wet, and I didn't even feel it. My clothes did get a bit dirty, as expected. I'm glad I rode in. I used to be more cautious about rain, and I find that was too cautious. The headwind was quite strong. Interestingly, the moored boats in the river were facing different directions than the wind I was facing. Clearly there are wind eddies against the island.

I might get wet going home, but it's neither cold nor hot, so I'll be fine.

No riding yesterday and today for me, unfortunately. My car, a 99 Audi A4, was totaled in a three car accident on the Verrazano bridge last Friday. Wife, kid and I are all ok. However, the hood got bent up a few inches (glad it stayed shut).and the trunk lid and taillight was also smashed in the back. We were basically the middle of a crash sandwich. :-(. The car will be towed on Friday to a dump place. Oh and to add insult to injury, the passenger side was flooded on Saturday. We had a flash flood a little after 5pm the neighbor told me. We were away in CT visiting friends. That side of the cat was just below the waterline. Finally, our friend in CT accidentally hit the rear wheel on the other car. It’s still drivable but needs some suspension work at the dealer. So things do come in threes...

I forgot to mention something yesterday. And this is somehow the fault of pdlamb. Last Thursday I had to carry my bike over a downed tree. Saturday morning my right leg started getting red an itchy. Yes, poison ivy or oak was on that tree. I never saw it, but that's the only place I can imagine having gotten it from. It stretches from my ankle to my knee. Fun.

A decent ride in this morning.

Boringly normal. Looks like I'm not going to be able to take my annual one week bicycle tour this year. I need to retire... after winning the lottery

My GPS app showed me reaching high speeds, and I wasn't putting in much effort. Aha, a tailwind! It's such a rare treat. I still worked up a big sweat, but I don't mind.

Rode fixed today for the first time in a while. Nice ride. A few blocks from home, I realized I forgot to pack a repair kit. But how often do you need it? (knocks on wood).

second day of commuting on my new bike. I am liking it a lot. Shifts smoother and rolls smoother. it is almost as fast as my 700 wheeled bike was but much much smoother.
Today it was around 60F and VERY humid which made it feel cooler to me. The grass was wet as if it had rained in my yard this morning.

I forgot to turn the air conditioner off in my office last night, and was pleasantly surprised to find it cooler than usual when I got to work this morning.

Yesterday, I rode with one front pannier, since I didn't have much to carry. Since that went OK, I did it again today with a little more stuff. Having the weight unbalanced is not as bad as you would think. I do have to compensate a little, but I don't feel it when pedaling. I was able to ride no-hands yesterday by shifting my weight to the side. I didn't try today. I'm sure there's a limit to how much imbalance is tolerable, but I haven't found it.

I shot these on the river yesterday (Monday) evening, and this evening (Tuesday). Last night, I saw a black sky in my rear view mirror, and I knew I had to stop and shoot. My evening commute is southbound.

If you zoom into the pictures, you can see the George Washington Bridge.

noglider - Nice pics. It seems white shirts are the thing to wear on that path.

I left a little early and got an extra bit of distance - 15.5 miles this morning.

Pretty good ride in, seemed like a lot more were riding in today. Weather is cooler, and humidity has dropped a little after yesterdays quick storms. Glad I took the train and rode in more than usual this morning. There was a bad accident on my driving commute path roughly when I'd be in that area. So either I missed being in an accident or missed sitting in park on the freeway for 2 or more hours for the cleanup process. Hope everyone involved with the accident is alright though.

Really pleasant this morning, not as humid, which is a tease because the rest of the day will be rain and thunderstorms. Ready to get wet

noglider i like the pictures too.

i got stung in the head this morning and swallowed some sort of bug saying hi to a lady on the bike path (almost threw up) but it was still a great ride this morning. 17.2 miles before work!

Smoky. The city had an apocalyptic feel to it under the orange glow of the sunrise through the smoke. I tried taking a couple pictures, but they didn't do justice (I think maybe the AWB was over-correcting?). It was the kind of orange filter that makes greenery just pop, like those blue-blocking sunglasses. It was bad enough that some streetlights were still on two hours after sunrise. There's an air quality advisory for people with respiratory problems, but I didn't have any breathing problems. I even pushed myself a bit harder because I was running late.

RidingMatthew - no fun getting stung in the head. Been there. But did you eat the bug that stung you?

A decent ride in this morning. I left a little before 6am and went to the gym for a bit before riding the rest of the way to work. Looking to get over 90F today. It seems this summer has not been horribly hot though. I don't remember getting over 95 when we sometimes get to upper 90s or even 100.

great SOUPY ride!

mgw4jc I think with no hair it makes the sting worse. Felt like the stinger penetrated to my skull. A coworker said my head was lumpier than usual haha. That area of my head it still tender.

A great ride this morning for me but golly the humidity was through the roof. NOTHING Evaporated. I got a compliment on my bike from a friend who was also riding to work. (he just happened to be on the phone) I asked him where his hands free device was.

I saw that on Garmin Connect website that I only rode 197 miles in July and last July I did 711 miles. That shows the drenching rains and mechanical troubles I have had this past month.

Pretty good ride yesterday evening and this morning, starting to get cooler. Train was packed last night from the Twins game letting out at the same time as my evening commute, but had a nice conversation with a fellow biker I've seen pretty regularly just never said Hi. Hoping this weather sticks around very doable for both commutes.

oh yeah ran into a guy at the bike rack yesterday evening. We got to talking about our commute. He said he has less than a mile (which made sense for him to be regular clothes) When I said 11 miles one way he was stunned. It was an encouraging conversation.. I hope for both of us.

Rode in from home yesterday and today. Trying to take advantage of the good weather whilst it is still here. Am a little more tired today so will take it a little easier on the way home. I met a Canadian expat, Frank, on the way in. He rode with me from Hackensack all the way to 94th and Riverside in Manhattan. Was nice to have a fellow rider to chat with. He was pretty fast and I used him for blocking the wind in Teaneck crossing the Rt 95 bridge into Leonia. I told him that he'd probably drop me on the Ft Lee Road hill and sure enough he did. He waited for me at the top of the hill. Today should be similar to yesterday albeit a little warner (89 to 90F) on the way home.

Last night's ride home was unusually difficult because I was so tired. I was riding as if I already had 75 miles on me. I fell asleep on the couch at 8pm, got up at 10pm and wasn't up for long, and then went to sleep for the rest of the night, so I guess I got over 10 hours of sleep.

Today I felt strong. Interestingly, the humidity isn't bothering me.

I took some very short videos yesterday morning and this morning. I'll see how they come out and post them if possible.

Still a bit smoky, but not as bad as yesterday. Mornings are starting to get chilly - almost wished I had long sleeves.

90%+ humidity this morning.. nasty. As long as I kept going not bad but if I stopped the sweat poured! Almost 200 miles on the new bike so far so good.

August has been quite light on the commuting front. Took a break from commuting in the first week of August because back to back 800-mile months called for that. Even after that, I have bike commuted on 4 days only!! Taking it easy for this week because I have a 300K ride tomorrow. And then next week I am off to Canada for a vacation. So, no commuting next week either. I should be able to get back into my groove next month though.
