Another misty morning. More fog than mist though I guess. The squirrels were out in force and threatening my line. One chipmunk managed to cross the MUP in front of me. He was moving pretty fast. More leaves starting to fall, though everything is still primarily green.

More rain but managed to get to work between thunderstorms. Hopefully I can make that happen on the way home too

Tundra_Man 09-25-18 07:15 AM

Add me to the rain list. I got soaked.

Last night I left into a shower; the radar showed green over me, a gap, and then some yellow (heavier rain). That's how it played out. I got home to a wife wondering where I was and whether I needed to be rescued from the rain. I explained the radar, and why I was somewhat damp, and got the gimlet eye. Two minutes after we wrapped that up, the deluge hit. Whew!

This morning was mixed overcast but no rain. I was thinking as I rode, "Riding in shorts and short sleeves is coming to an end. It's almost cool."

A timely warning, indeed. The rechargeable blinky I turned on to be noticed in the rain may or may not have lasted until the first shower stopped. It was certainly dead by the time I got home.

rhm, I keep spare shoes and socks in my office in case my feet get drenched. Today, I also took another spare pair of socks, so that (1) I could change twice today if needed -OR- (2) I don't deplete the spare set in my office.

Two days of riding this week and two days of fog/ mist/ drizzle in the morning. A lighter drizzle on the way home yesterday. Got to ride with a buddy last night who got a new bike and rode his first commute in 10 months. He got a REI Co-op 1.1? I think that is the right number.
I wore a raincoat Monday and was so hot 58F and 100% humidity. Hot mess. I think I will have to add fenders to the new bike.

90% chance of rain the next couple days but i heard that the usual spot i had been parking someone put notes saying it was private property no parking there.

+5C morning, packed my oldschool film camera with me and off to work, some steeper climbs but the 50km passes just nicely with me beloved bike:

Pleasant ride in about 64F. Cooler, but still 99% humidity. The afternoons have been more comfortable with the high in the low 80s.
Good chance of rain this afternoon. I guess I'll just see about it later.

Tundra_Man 09-26-18 07:31 AM

Fall has arrived. 42F with a brisk headwind. But not rain and the sun was out, so it was good ride.

Yesterday evening I rode home from the station in pouring rain, protected fairly well by an Ikea rain poncho.

This morning it was warm and so humid that I couldn't tell if I was riding through fog or drizzle. It didn't help that I forgot, until the last moment, that I hadn't cleaned my chain after yesterday's ride home. So I cleaned and lubed my chain at the last minute, and had to make up that time by riding as fast as I could. Pretty soaked by the time I got on my train.

Rain day 3... ugly and grey too

52 degrees and sunny for my ride this morning.

we haven't had a morning this cool in a long freaking time.

i was in my glory! it's so nice to be able ride hard without losing 8 gallons of sweat.

foggy in spots this morning but eventually cleared. supposed to rain this afternoon but so far still sunny! fingers crossed

Tundra_Man 09-27-18 07:17 AM

51°F this morning with a light head wind. Mostly overcast with the sun peeking through the clouds in spots.

Left the house 10 minutes late. Knew I was behind schedule, so I pushed it hard the whole 8 miles to the office. Wound up getting there 5 minutes early. Apparently I was cranking harder than I thought.

After work our company is having a 20 year celebration reception at a lounge downtown. I have to go schmooze with clients. I hope they have bicycle parking.

"Dark and cheerless is the morn..." Rain let up, but a heavy overcast and fog/mist. Still, it was cool and it looks like the flash flooding bypassed us.

Traded rain for cooler weather - 52F this morning.

I hope that was a hyphen and not a minus sign!

The clouds were heading my direction a bit before 5pm yesterday. It was windy for some of the ride, then about halfway through it started raining. Not heavy, just rain.

Before that, I had been passing some cars on the right as they slowed and stopped for people turning. Then they would pass me back. One guy in a pickup didn't seem to like me passing him though. When stopping ahead of me for a left turner, I kind of thought he had pulled to the right to cut off any room I may have had. But then it looked like he straightened again, so I thought nothing of it and was able to pass and continue on.

A bit later he passed me again, but yet another left turner in front of him caused him to stop. This time he intentionally pulled over as far right as he could to cut off my lane. There's not a bike lane here, just a wide enough road. I thought, "What's this guy's problem?" Right behind him was a side street or parking lot entrance with easy access to the sidewalk. I looked ahead and saw it was clear of pedestrians and hopped on. I kind of gave him a look as I went by. Then I heard him honk because the person in front of him was not taking an open opportunity to turn left. I looked back again a moment later and he had turned right into a driveway or something. He was quite impatient to almost be at his destination.

An uneventful ride in this morning.

I regret I didn't ride yesterday. It didn't rain here. I took the subway from work to the blood center. The platforms are really hot in September because the air conditioned trains put heat into the tunnels, and the tunnels hold the heat for a month after the weather cools off.

I didn't want to get on the subway after my blood donation, so I looked for a Citi Bike bike. There were no bikes anywhere near, so I walked a fair bit in the wrong direction to get one. I walked into the area near the UN where there is a summit going on. There were thousands of police officers and vehicles everywhere, controlling and redirecting traffic. The scene is difficult to imagine if you haven't seen it. Being on foot, I was not encumbered. I eventually got a bike and rode to my neighborhood pizza place for dinner. It was hot and humid, and I was wearing long pants and a dress shirt, so my sweat was pretty uncomfortable. I didn't have a helmet, and I feel very mixed about that, but I don't let not having one stop me from riding.

This morning the temperature dropped back down to the low 60s. I wore cycling clothes, including a wool jersey. I was cold at first and eventually got hot and sweaty, but sweating in a wool jersey in low temperature is not bad at all. It was really nice to be back on my bike after skipping two days. The headwind was furious, but I didn't mind.

45F sunny

Bigger ride than usual yesterday. I took my sister in her car for a dental appointment with general anaesthsia, and once I poured her back into her apartment I rode from there. I explored some MUP s but soon wished I hadn’t as they just made my ride longer without making it better.

I managed the steep bit in 9th gear (30-15) twice this week and I’m feeling insufferably pleased with myself for it.

I’m thinking about buying fenders for this bike. Will need them soon. I’d like a 700c wheelset with slicks too but I probably won’t.

Same as Tom, I skipped two days, one because it was raining and the next because it was supposed to rain but didn't. Riding today it was cool in the morning but not so cold that I needed a jacket, just a light extra layer. The ride home was warm enough for short sleeves again, but it was threatening to rain again. I guess it never did.

Been raining hard here in Japan the last few days...Got caught out in heavy rain the other day when "light rain in the morning" turned into heavy rain for half the day.

Otherwise, pretty nice commutes. Last month I found a route that was shorter and kept me more away from cars on smoother roads. Amazing how much difference those little tweaks make.
