That's what she said.
Also you're right. The screw hole can be made tighter (I'm dying here...dying!!! ) with either glue or a matchstick. Cut a matchstick in half longways so it's a thin strip of wood, put it along the threads and tighten the screw and it'll add enough resistance that it'll be nice and tight. You may have to go thinner than half a match width, but you get the idea.
I use this trick on loose screws all the time. Never did it on a bike, but it's been holding a door hinge on my bedroom door for 12 years now.

Coat the screw thread in the epoxy and screw it in and it won't come out. Ever. Even if it's a little loose without the epoxy. It can get wet. It can get hot. It won't get loose.
But that only works if you don't need to unscrew it.

If it's just a little loose that might work though.
Or electrical tape. That's thicker and still weather proof...won't dissolve in rain like masking tape eventually would.

SkyMall on ebay has the XS20 for $30 w/ free shipping, for that price I may bite. Interested in the Ion Speed Pros but it's unclear whether any of the Amazon listings come with helmet mounts or which separate helmet mount kits work for the Speed series.

I tried several options but never found anything satisfactory for my needs under $50. I also preferred the bullet-type form factor, but ended up going with the Gitup Git2, which is a GoPro style camera. For about $115 new, you get the camera and a bunch of mounting accessories. I mounted mine upside down, under the handlebar.
Pros: Excellent high-resolution image quality, including Gyro stabilization and wide dynamic range for different lighting conditions. License plates can be made out in frame-by-frame, which was a must for me. Also, one-touch to start and stop recording makes it super convenient for commuting.
Cons: Short battery life, and the waterproof case does not allow for charging/powering during use. Ended up getting a frame-style case for use in dry weather, and put a USB power bank in a small, up-front frame bag.
Is the OP still around? Haven't seen any further posts, and wondering if he found something he likes.

Yup, I'm still here and definitely appreciating all the recommendations and tips! I'm a bit short on funds at the moment so not actively searching right now, but once finances get back in order I will definitely be reading through this thread again to help me with my research. Once I finally do get one, I will post here too. Thanks for all the great ideas guys!

Its at the entry end of quality but is acceptable. Actually, you can submit quality even below that but it will tend to draw attention to itself unless you work very had with production quality. Resolution should not be ignored, but good video is not all about resolution.

let me know if you have any questions about the cam. here's a tip: don't delete still images from the card. leave the card untouched until sort of full, then either reformat it or store it & start a new card. I have found that when I start deleting images (to make more room on the card) the camera starts acting up, needing to be reset after every clip (meaning sticking paper clip in "reset hole") I now use only 8gig cards so I can start new cards more often. it makes searching for clips & pics faster than on a giant card. another thing I do is start the cam, let it record for a while, then after some event like a road crossing or a stop, or anything really, I stop it & restart it within a cpl seconds. this way I don't have to scroll thru one long clip to see something in particular. I just have to skip from clip to clip to find it. anyway I can go on & on about using it, just ping me any way you want w/ a question ... have fun with it, it's pretty darn versatile!
EDIT: to add, I realized that the camera can also format the card, so I fished out the HDMI cable, plugged it into my TV, and selected Format. The first time the camera shut itself off before I even successfully got to the Format dialog, but second time seems to have done the trick, at least it's been recording for longer than before. Optimistic that it'll be usable again.
EDIT 2: Nope, I thought it was still recording but the camera actually was stuck after only a few megabytes, the red light was on but not doing anything except draining the battery, and I couldn't even stop recording by sliding the switch. Had to reset it, and now it's back to the same problem as before.

nope. a new card does the trick. one of the reasons I only buy 8 gig cards now.
with a cpl new cards the settings app didn't work w my computer. let me know if this happens to you. basically the cam remembers the last settings you had when you change cards, so if the settings app doesn't show up when you plug it into your computer, don't worry about it. UNLESS YOU WANT TO CHANGE YOUR SETTINGS when that happens to me, I insert one of my old cards where the settings app works, change my settings, take the old card out & put the new card back in. currently tho, my current new card is working fine, settings app & all. bear in mind the camera instructions are different for MACs & Windows PCs. been getting my 8 gig cards on Amazon, usually 2 at a time
these are the last cards I bought & they work great
2 PACK - SanDisk 8GB MicroSDHC Memory Flash Card Class 4 Micro SD SDHC SDSDQM-008G Wholesale Lot + ( 2 Cases )

You card is likely inferior. Get a better card. Also, nobody get 8 gig cards anymore.

It's a Sandisk Class 10 UHS-1 card, getting better would be overkill. If anything, it might be too good for the camera (unless I got a lemon). I used to mod Android tablets and some were known to have issues with cards rated too fast, for whatever reason, who knows.

Have you run/tested the speed rating on the card btw? Always a good measure so you know you're getting the speed you're paying for.

Good idea, I tested it and there were no errors:
Writing speed: 15.2 MByte/s
Reading speed: 65.4 MByte/s
H2testw v1.4
I managed to get the camera recording again, using the Overwrite format option in SD Card Formatter. Of course it could get screwed up again at any random time, so I should buy some backup cards.
