Just let me say I love commuting here. I ride buses, trains and the tube pretty much everywhere while my gf and I sight see. It seems that while there are very tight spaces to fit a bike into, bike commuters get much greater respect than they do in the states. I test rode a brompton yesterday and was offered a job at a bike shop as a mechanic. Mighty tempting but we will go home Monday to Peoria Illinois.

Brompton

Bleedin' awsome, mate! Did you get to bike in traffic? My wife and I have never been anywhere they drive on the left, and we don't think we could even sit in the front left passenger seat of a car.

Nice.... I lived there for 2yrs in the 90s - only thing I didn't enjoy was the weather there. You going to get a Brompton now? My favorite bike ever.

Yes I did, rode about a mile in traffic and it was fairly stressful but no one honked and everyone gave me enough room.

My gf and I would both love them, especially for travelling to other cities. It's a kick ass little bike.

I'd like to try a Brompton. I think they're great. But I have two friends who have them, and they don't use their Bromptons as their primary bikes.

Driving on the wrong side isn't very hard. Take left turns sharp and right turns wide.

I do not. We just stopped at the shop and when the manager heard I was a bike mechanic he said they had just lost theirs and asked if I was interested. I am sure it would be impossible to live there on a mechanics wage .

Come to Portsmouth, you'll love it and can live here on a mechanics wage.

Actually, it's getting very hard nowadays. One needs a minimum wage which is creeping up to the average across the UK. In London, one might be OK. There's another issue of all the quotas being used up quite early in the year (PhD holders are exempt from quotas in much of Europe )
