Recommendation for a LIGHT city commuter bike, 6' male.

Hi. This is my first post. I've been through about seventeen bikes in NYC over 25+ years, as I've kept bikes on the street out of necessity. I'm ready to upgrade, even cart my bike inside. SO, I want to buy a bike NEW for the first time in ages, or at least a good, light used commuter bike. I noticed the Biria Men's citibike for around $550. That's a bit steep for me, as I was looking to get a "late" model, or again, a used one, for half that price. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm 6' with about a 33-34" standover height.

20 years ago I worked in a camera store whilst in college. Customers would come in asking for a camera that is small, takes really good pictures, has a powerful zoom, and that doesn't cost much. If such a request were possible it would be quite silly for people to purchase expensive, large cameras with moderate zooms or fixed focal length, and interchangeable lenses.

I can't argue whether 550 is steep for your budget, but it is a small amount for a lightweight and sturdy bike, new in a store. ecpect to pay 1000 or more for something of the quality you could use as a daily rider while also being relatively light. And that's without purchasing racks, lights and locks.

For your budget shop used and buy a great quality several year old bike. expect to still buy accessories and a tune up. You will get a better bike that way.

Bikes: Jamis commuter 2 , engwe EP-2 Pro 750 watt

Have you looked at Jamis yet?
I've got a Jamis Commuter II, with a 7 speed Nexus IGH, and its probably the best bicycle (commuter) I've ever owned. I think it was less than your budget when it was new.

The Latest Bike Friday [pakit] is both light and folds to reduce space needed in your apartment,
but like the Brompton , has small tires.. [part of its ability to fold so compact]

a single speed bike is light because 'nothing weighs less than a part not installed'.. which should be Obvious.

Bikes: too many of all kinds

YOu could have mine! LOL

I have a 19lb 56cm specialized Langster. Fast and light and single speed.

I also got a sweet older race bike off of craig's list for $250. Took me a long time to find a good bike there though.

Question - you going to have more than one post on this forum?

If the frame of reference for “nice, light” is a fashion-brand hi-ten roadster at 33 lb...

Hi!
I meant this is my first post on the forum. Are you serious about wanting to sell your bike? Please let me know! Thanks.
