Everything went wrong today. Everything.
Everything went wrong today.
1) Forecast was for cold weather, it was mild instead, so I was overdressed. Stopped to remove layers. This is still OK. (note to self: From now on I will trust my thermometer rather than the weather prophets.)
2) Then it started drizzling, too little for rain gear but enough to get you wet. This was still OK.
3) Then I got a front flat. Spent 15 minutes putting the spare tube in, searched fruitlessly for the culprit in the tyre.
4) Got another flat 10 minutes later. This time I knew where to find it coz I had carefully lined up the tyre label with the valve stem when fixing the 1st flat. Fixed it with the patch kit. Fished out a piece of glass.
5) While fixing 2nd flat, stepped in a giant pile of dogsh1t. The entire sole and cleat of my MTB shoe is filled right down into every crevice. And that stuff is incedibly sticky, it took forever to clean at work.
6) The light drizzle wet my non-waterproof saddle through and through while fixing flats. Very uncomfortable to ride. (note to self: get waterproof saddle.)
7) All this caused me to be late by almost 1 hour.

Isn't it a killer? Man-o-Man days like that, you have to stop and ask yourself
"Why am I doing this?' If it's an consolation I have had more then one day like
you have had. What's the cliche? "in ten years we'll all laugh about it".

Hey, you still got to ride!
Are you taking the tire off to change the flat? You should only need to take off one side of the tire and then just pull out the tube, find the culprit, and install the new tube - no need to remove the tire completely. I line up the label on the tire with the stem too, but you don't even have to worry about that if you leave one bead on the rim.

Wow! . . . a flat front, that's kinda rare. Atleast it wasn't a rear flat, so you didn't have to mess with a gressy chain. You seem rather calm/collected about your bad day, that's good . . . I appluad you for that : )

Oh yes, forgot to mention that I really wrestled with my pump. I have a Zefal Dually, but the orifice is a little too tight to receive the valve threads, so I have to wrestle with the damn thing every time. This with cold, wet hands, I opened up an old winter crank in my thumb fighting the pump.
I was briefly tempted to call SWMBO to bail me out but then reflected that I would be taking away the one thing that I look forward to every day: Riding.
Just patched the first tube in my office, and fiddled with the pump to widen the valve hole. Hopefully it will go better next time. I will get a second pump though, maybe a Crank Bros mini.

That's worse than the day I was biking to work and a bird (apparently with intestinal problems) **** on my head. I got to work (an animal hospital) and washed my hair with some dog shampoo first thing, then had to explain why I was doing that.....

haha birds own you
...sorry I had to say it, as I had a bird crap on my head when I was 8.
To this day I'm still paranoid about avian-crap-bombings.

Considering all the birds I've been around, I guess I'm kind of amazed I only got one good head-crapping. And at least it was on the way to work where we have dog shampoo, not on the way to night calculus class or something.

Hey, I got hit in the face with bird poop, while on a picnic with a bunch of classmates. That's not what bothered me though. It's the fact that no-one would help me clean that sh** off!! WTF?? Eventually I got a napkin from a teacher and got rid of most of it, but I'm starting to wonder if this incident has root in my generally apathetic view of society.

I got hit on the head by bird poop while I was in a convertible at the beginning of a date when I was college. That was certainly embarassing!
In addition to cycling, I drive a convertible now but I've been poop-free so far.
