Fenders for Surly Midnight Special?

What fenders would people recommend for a Surly Midnight Special? Tires are 650b plus x 47.
My LBS recommended SKS P55s, which are designed for 26" wheels. I can find Planet Bike fenders for 650b, but not 650b plus.
Thanks!

When one of my friends got a Fat Bike , in this rainy climate , he took the mudguards he could find,
sliced them down the center and added a section of flat plastic in between to make them wider..

SKS is using a thermo-plastic , you may get a 26" wide enough , and get them to take a set by heating them ...

just want a shopping link? where is the DIY challenge in that ?

Yeah, just a shopping link, I'm afraid. (lowers head in shame)
And I'm also considering a set from Woody's fenders, which can be made in this size.

Velo Orange has options for you. So does Honjo. 650b is French, think Frenchly!

Don't 650b plus tires have a larger outside diameter than 650b? 740 mm v. 702 mm. So a fender designed for 650b would be too small. Should I look for fender for 29"?
sigh

I'd recommend only considering aluminum fenders. Plastic or combination fenders just aren't stiff enough is the larger widths to work well. The difference between fenders designed for 26", 650b or 700c isn't that great. IMO the best balance of price, quality and ease of installation are Velo Orange, I use the 650bx52 zepplins and the 700cx45 hammered and have been nothing but satisfied since I installed them more than a year ago.

I use the same tires as you and the 52mm wide fenders are a little too narrow, I think 58mm is what you want: https://velo-orange.com/products/vo-...m-fenders-650b

Thanks this is very helpful.
Do you think wooden fenders would work here? I'm considering a set of Woody's fenders.

They'd fit, not sure how well they work. I couldn't imagine why you'd want to use them, they generally have pretty poor coverage.

They look beautiful. One of these (curved): https://www.woodysfenders.com/category-s/114.htm

The ride is just great -- perfect for my inner-suburb and urban commuting. Really absorbs rough roads. I've been so inspired that twice already this week I've ridden all the way into work (about 9 miles, not such a big deal I know but goes through a blighted neighborhood) rather than take the train part of the way.

Awesome. My ride is 10 miles each way and I've been thinking about a gravel-ier bike. Those MS are so pretty and nice. Do you like the Rival drivetrain?

I'm happy with the drivetrain but to be honest I'm not the most informed or knowledgable person about drivetrains. Don't rely on me for anything too technical!
I will tell you that I am in love with this bike.

If you don't notice your drivetrain, that means it's excellent.

I hope you stick around and tell us and show us the fenders you end up with.

I certainly will post pics with the fenders.

I've been communicating with the owner of Woody's Fenders about sizing and he has gone out of his way -- literally -- to help me. He went to his LBS, which had a Surly MS in stock, and confirmed that his regular 700C x 2" compound curved fender fits "perfectly".
The last thing is that I want to check, as best I can, is that the fenders won’t interfere with my car’s bike roof rack. (In particular, the front wheel sits in a tray holder with a rear lip.) I'm going to take a few pics of my bike on the rack and send to Woody's so he can let me know.

Assuming no issue with rack, it will just be a matter of selecting one of Woody's patterns.

It just took me a while to get used to these new-fangled tap shifters. I've been riding 30 and 40 year old bikes with levers to shift.

Can't wait to see what you end up with. What size did you end up with, and at what height? I'm having a hard time coming up with a reason why I don't want one of these.

After obsessing over this for a few days I've decided to go with these SimWork's Honjos - https://www.sim.works/collections/fe...nt=24951504131
I really am very attracted to Woody's Fenders, but realisitically they won't last very long in Philadelphia.
Thanks to all and I'll post pics when they are installed.

Now it's time to start obsessing over bells. Spurcycle bell seems to be the favored bell around here (I know it's pricey). Black or silver? hmmmm
