2/10's MPH

The route my commute follows has mostly small town side streets with some paved bike trail and a few blocks of sidewalk serving as venue.

Generally commuting miles are accumulated until the end of the month and entered in my log as 1 entry rather than entering each day individually, then the trip odometer is zero'd out to begin the next month. Going into this morning's commute my average speed was hovering around 12.9 MPH for the month of July.

This morning as I sat at the coffe shop sipping my morning brew the sky turned dark almost instantly. I flipped the server two bills and ran out the door, threw on my helmet, jumped on my bike and peddled for all I was worth trying to beat a ominous looking storm coming from the northwest, fortunately work is only 2 miles southeast of the coffe shop. When I arrived at work I was slightly damp and very pleased to have just beaten the main thrust of the storm.

My biggest thrill came when I glanced at the cycle computer to see my average speed was up to 13.1 MPH. Motivation from the storm added 2/10'th MPH to the month's average speed.

Bikes: Road Bike / Mountain Bike

That's quite an increase across a whole month. Maybe you need a few more storm clouds.
