What did you see on your commute today?
Yesterday I saw a Hispanic guy pushing one of those ice cream wagons, I noticed that the thing's got some pretty wide tires on it, those guys put in miles and miles and that thing must be a beast to push. But, then I noticed there's something wrong with one of his legs and his heel doesn't touch the ground - injured foot or leg or something. Good thing he has a Hispanic employer, a good American one would fire him for getting injured or not hire him in the first place. Freedom to starve.....
A more remarkable sight, a shirtless white guy on a bike, you know how we've discussed "ghost riding" a bike where you're riding one, and guiding a 2nd bike along side with one hand? Well, this guy was doing that with a GROCERY CART, a full on, supermarket shopping cart complete with lil' wheels and all in glittering chrome. Heavy bugger! And full of bags of collected cans. He was heading toward the local recycling collection point and moving at a good clip. Amazing!

I see this older (60+) Mexican guy every morning pushing a child's turquoise blue bike down the sidewalk. He's always wearing a cowboy hat and blue-jean jacket. In the evening I see him still pushing it. On weekends he's pushing it. I see him pushing toward downtown in the morning, but in either direction any other time of the day. I think all he does all day long is push that bike up and down the sidewalk. I did see him ride it once, though, but still on the same route.

Today was my first commute ever and I rode home along the Truckee River, I saw some beautiful scenery and an incredible number of homeless people as well as some shady looking folks whom I can only imagine to be drug dealers. The bike path probably provides a sanctuary for them in that there are places quite far from the reach of patrol cars. Only a bike patrol could really cause them issues.
I enjoyed the ride. Traffic along the river was minimal.

I was riding along Kifer road today and heard a litle noise, and a homeless guy was camped out under a tree. Guy's gotta live somewhere.

As a suburb commuter, we don't have no stinkin' taxis....we have something worse - landscaping trucks! There are trucks everywhere with trailers, branches hanging out, and a cab full of people (blocking every available mirror that is not already cracked, broken, or completely missing). These guys will pass you and turn right directly in front of you. Just when you think you missed the truck...here comes the trailer!
Anyway, for the second day of commuting, it wasn't bad. Oh yeah...saw a rabbit too.

I saw two guys on mountain bikes.
Then I passed them.
Yesterday I almost hit some old guy in an electric wheelchair when he tried to cross the street in front of me. I was going about 50 km/h at the time. Good thing he stopped when I yelled "Watch Out!"
Yes, that would have been painful for both of us.

yesterday morning i rode by a burning van. saw the smoke from a few blocks away and then was passed by the firetruck, when i got to the street the truck turned up there it was, a full-size no window (we called 'em kidnapper vans when i was in school cause they were the ones we were always warned about in those high quality films they show grade schoolers) engulfed in flames. the firemen hadn't even gotten out of their truck yet.

A few days ago, I rode the Hwy 87 trail. Near the big hill, I saw a vixen red fox running along side me for about 20 yards, and then she ran up into her den. That was nice.

I saw a woman transporting a patio screen door in her minivan. Instead of putting it in the long way, she had the right cargo door open with the patio screen door propped across the second row seats and sticking out at least a foot from the van.

Yesterday I saw someone very confused in a VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT try for a left turn, then decide not to or something, turn around (3-point turn) and drive back ON THE CROSSWALK!
I sat there and watched, astonished and not sure whether to bust out laughing.
And I just had a friend say they'd seen Passat drivers do the most idiotic things.... I wish I'd had a camera with me.....

I got you guys beat...
My wife and I were out riding last Sunday at 8am down a quiet residential street. There was a sedan parked askew next to the curb that looked a little odd. As I rode by, I looked in the window and there was a shirtless guy in the reclining front seat humping someone (something???). I mean, he was going at it like a locomotive! The whole car was rocking! I couldn't see the person underneath him, however.
I started laughing uncontrollably and almost fell off my bike. My wife didn't notice the show but commented that it's possible (although very unlikely) that someone might be getting *****. That scenario didn't originally enter my mind, but now I started to worry and decided to call 911. I explained the situation to the operator and he asked me why I didn't stop and help if there was even a slight chance that someone was being *****. Oh well...

Other than the stuck truck, I saw a big desert mountain of petrified mud doing a decent imitation of a misty Chinese hillside glowing pink and gold and gray-green.

I saw the most amazing rainbow I'd ever seen on the ride home yesterday. It literally went from horizon to horizon without break, a full 180 degree arc in the sky. It was also at least a triple ring, which is to say the full spectrum repeated itself in full three times. Absolutely breathtaking.
