2026 Commuter Mileage Thread
So, it's now 2026. Look how far we have come in the last year!
Here's the instructions based on those written by Swifty . . .
Quote(ish):
This is a thread where us commuters can log our yearly commuting mileage in. Should be fun!
To add your mileage (US Customary Units), just copy the list from the previous post and add your name and mileage at the appropriate line in the list. To update your mileage, cut your name and mileage line, and paste it at the new location according to your new mileage total.
By keeping everything in "Courier New", the list aligns nicely... You'll have to change the font, but it makes it easier to keep things looking good. We have been keeping the list formatted in fixed width type as follows using square bracket BB code tags FONT=COURIER and /FONT around the list. For whatever reason the IB staff don't give us fonts on the control panel in this version of the forum software.

For even more fun, you can highlight your name in red or bold or both and you could even add your state's 2 Letter code, or a country code after your name to let us know where you are...

Example: Let's suppose the list is as follows:
Swifty ______________________________ 1275.8 (Total 1405)
John (OH) ___________________________ 1200.4
Mary _________________________________ 988.5 (Total 1350)
Robert (CA) __________________________ 500.0
I want to put in my mileage, so I copy the list above, put in my name plus my current commuting mileage total for this year (Optionally, following that, I'll add parenthesis with my Cumulative Total Miles, or an alternative distance measurement. You can also put in your commute ratios in brackets... e.g [3/5] is three commutes for five opportunities:
Swifty ______________________________ 1275.8 (Total 1405)
John (OH) ___________________________ 1200.4
Mary _________________________________ 988.5 (Total 1350)
Robert (CA) __________________________ 500.0
K'Tesh (PRC) _________________________ 251.7(643.74) [45/60]
A week later I want to update my mileage, So I copy over the list from the most recent post, and adjust the mileage behind my name. As my mileage has become greater that the mileage of the person above me in the list, I cut and paste my name to represent the changed standings:
Swifty ______________________________ 1275.8 (Total 1405)
John (OH) ___________________________ 1200.4
Mary _________________________________ 988.5 (Total 1350)
K'Tesh (PRC) _________________________ 671.6(1931.21) [53/75]
Robert (CA) __________________________ 500.0
I Pray Everyone Has A Safe, Prosperous, and Healthy 2026!

First two weeks of 2026 are in the books. Here in the SF Bay, we had a couple wet days last week, but this week was clear and sunny, even felt warm (shorts and a t-shirt) on my way home this evening around 4:30 local.

I'd say, yes, as do extended routes home. In my book, as long as it is to/from work, it counts.

January temps have been kind to the Front Range of Colorado. Really feeling spoiled not having to wear my ski goggles or place the Bar Mits. Not to mention haven’t had to mount the (heavy) studded winter tires… this afternoon’s commute was 37F and I was a tad whiny.

I am right in assuming that “commute” isn’t just to work? I did errands on the bike over the weekend which was a total of 46.5 miles and I have been counting this type of riding as well.

Wow, it's been a long time since I visited this thread ... funny to see my UserName up there.
if you've seen my other posts, you may know that I recently got rid of a car and invested in an e-bike, a Flat Bar Salsa Confluence Essa 8. 12 days of work so far this year, and I have commuted by bike on 11 of those. I may drive tomorrow if one's available and it rains, but we'll see.
My round-trip commute is 18 miles. I've also discovered that the app I use may not be entirely accurate, but we'll go with it for now. As of today (all commuting, no recreational rides):

Any votes for denoting different commute totals for motorized vs non motorized commuters?

I really don't care. I'm sure some people really do, but their visitation to this thread in this subforum feels unlikely

I count it in the integer sense, but not the mileage unless it was also utilitarian (an appointment, an errand). Any mileage I would otherwise have driven. But it's for your own benefit, not ours

shoot, I didn’t think I was chasing you off. I enjoy you here. I don’t care means I don’t object, not that I hate you and want you to go away.

I did not at all feel chased off, I appreciated your candor! Nor do I want to be perceived as judging those commuting on a motorized vehicle, it’s just apples and oranges to me in terms of commuting. I want to know the mileage of those doing it on their own without any assistance. That’s what I like and love to share.

Darth, he was referring to Chinghis and I, which is fair, as I've been doing the uphill/headwind commute home on my eFatty sometimes, so I don't deserve as much credit. Chinghis has a killer commute (hence the high mileage) so the eBike makes a lot of sense for him.
Thigh Master, I think it makes more sense for those using eBikes to disclose it, since it doesn't seem to be the norm. I've added it to my stat line. I won't go to the trouble to say how many miles are bike vs. eBike until the end of the year.
