A fellow commuter at my company and I refer to weeks where we commute all five days as a "nickel." Despite having commuted somewhat regularly for over two years, this was the first time I managed to go two full weeks in a row.

It can be fun and motivating to have little prestige awards and bragging rights like this. You might try something like this a fun way to motivate other commuters where you live and work.

P.S. I don't know why we don't call two weeks a dime.

We should see if anyone can make it a quarter.

You know, the more I think about it, this could really catch on. It would be cool if these currency denominations were things we all shot for. Imagine a dollar! I would be darn proud to have commuted 100 days straight. And I would be a lot more motivated if I knew I'd have a little trophy (maybe a dollar bill framed with the date span of the commutes underneath it) and bragging rights that other commuters understood.

Hey administrators of this site: You could even set up an html representation of this sort of thing.

I wonder if others think this would be cool, or if I'm just really nerded out at the moment and don't even realize it.

I don't know about anyone else, but I just started a scrap book with nickels and the dates underneath them.

I thought you were going to tell us that you broke your personal record and made it to work in 55 minutes. "Double nickel" in basketball is when a player scores a 55-point game, e.g. Michael Jordan coming into MSG and dropping a double-nickel on my Knicks five games after his (first) come back.

Edit: at my first job out of college I probably made "dollars" because my only option was to ride to work. A couple of times in the winter when it was snowing too much I bummed a ride, but I'd say over the course of a year, I did ride my bike to work maybe five times total.
