At the risk of offending the modern American majority’s sensibilities, iced coffee is splendid. I have been drinking room temperature and iced coffee for twenty some years and find the flavor delectable and it does not burn. Watered down espresso? You betcha! It is my mainstay and I can sip it slowly and enjoy it immensely. Works in a standard water bottle too

I find iced tea to be the ultimate refresher when I'm super-thirsty. I wonder if iced coffee has a similar property?

I have one of these and drink coffee with one hand very easily. They come in two sizes, I have the small one. It's just a little narrow for a normal cage but it will work in a normal cage. I found a cheap neoprene bottle cozy to go over it. That makes if fit the normal cage holder, and keeps it from scratching. It also quiets it. They are very noisy in a cage, also noisy with ice cubes. It will not leak stored upside down even. It's built for backpacking.

Actually, I kind of like my non-espresso coffee to be lukewarm tepid. Seems to bring the flavor out. The only thing I get from scalding hot coffee is the acidity.

What is the exact word I am looking for?

My dad drank iced coffee quite a bit. It's reasonably popular in the south because it's difficult to drink hot coffee when it's 100+ degrees outside. It's not all that different from iced tea if you think about it and virtually nobody drinks hot tea around here.

Instant coffee is very high in potassium, an important electrolyte. A cyclist could do worse.

I love iced coffee. In fact, given a preference, I always choose iced.

I retired last year, so no commuting for me. I sometimes stop at the local Mcdonald's during a ride for some coffee. With a senior discount (over 55) a small coffee is only 40 cents. That's too cheap to pass up.

Ooo - I'm over 35 now, so instead of moping around thinking about my imminent demise I should go down and ask for my senior coffee discount, too.

cold coffee may be good, and instant coffee may be tasty? but cold, instant coffee is neither good or tasty.

Trying to get a simple cup of iced coffee at a Charbucks or S(econd) B(est) C(offee) is difficult, both have some vile concoction they sell as iced coffee that has been steeped overnight-it tastes horribly carmelized and syrupy.

Asking simply for coffee over ice results typically results in a cup of lukewarm coffee because many corporate baristas don't know how to properly ice coffee -I've pulled a few shots in my time, and it's astonishing how stupid most baristas come across nowadays, maybe it's because they deal with coffee drinking ignoramusses that have no idea how to order espresso.

No kidding, and then there's the the bean scene, bunch of other coffee shops. Sunnyvale = well caffeinated place!

We here in Cupertino are not so well-caffeinated. But I do ride past two Starbucks and one drive-through coffee shack before crossing the border.

While my commute is caffeine-free, my MTB buddy and I usually stop for coffee at a 7-11 or a gas station before going off into the woods.

If only I were back east, then I could go to Wawa... :,(

Hey, I have one like that! ...only mine is blue. It works great, and keeps coffee hot for hours. Most travel mugs let the coffee get cold after only ten miles or so in cold weather.

It is a little loose in my water bottle cage, so I use a thin foam water bottle insulator around it.

Actually mine is blue as well. I only have coffee with me when I am biking during the cooler times of the year. I have two bottle holders one for my thermos and one for hydration. This is a great thermos for commuting on a bicycle.

I agree. I commuted with several others, and this is the best one.

For those who haven't seen it, it is a true stainless steel vacuum thermos. When you push the button, the entire top flips open and there is a nice spout designed for both pouring and drinking. A smaller hole feeds the spout, so you don't accidentally get a huge gulp of scalding coffee.

Watered down espresso is my mainstay, also, but I like it hot. French roast is my favorite, or the darker the better.
