I have had a plain pair for 30 years, lost one recently. Amongst other things from bicycling 30 years ago for my '74 Grand Record, no one seems to carry them, just the velcro tape kind (don't like them). Except Cycle Surgery of the UK - kinda cool with the reflexlite covering. Shipping is more than the items. I'll order there if I have to but thought I'd check to see if anyone knows of a US bike shop that might carry them.

When I was in NYCEWheels in Manhattan, I think (I'm not sure) I spied some metal trouser clips that had reflective material on the outside. You can try calling them to see if they have them. Their no. is (212) 737-3078 and ask for Bert.

Why do you wear metal trousers? Aren't they uncomfortable? Talk about monkey butt!

Oh well, tried the shop above, no joy. Ferrous metal trousers provide a speed advantage in that one can mount a powerful permanent magnet (the heavy underwater salvage variety seems to work best) on the ends of ones aero bars and be pulled along at a pretty righteous clip without pedalling. I estimate a 40% increase in efficiency from this.

<grin> Just in case someone takes this seriously, please don't.

Only if you're not wearing ferrous pants or at least a helmet made out of the stuff :-)

This is yet another oldie but goodie that should be back into production. Other threads mentioned other oldies: the dual metal wire basket panniers and Flick-Stands to help support bikes against a wall. Everything old is new again. Except it's largely unavailable or hard to find.

I've seen them in random bike shops, Palo Alto bikes probably has them.

I use the rubber-band doo-hikkies that my wife uses in her hair. That works well and I think of her when I get to my destination and take it off of my ankle.

Just ordered from Salem Cycle, thanks for the tip. These things are available from many British sites but the shipping is a killer. I just find they have two advantages - instant on, no bending over and fumbling, and they seem to hold the folds of the trousers away from the chainring better. Easy off, too.
