MTB or Road: Which to build?
I have 2 frames hanging in the basement and I'd like to turn one into my commuter. I just can't decide which one.
My commute is under 4 miles, rural roads. However, I need to run lunchtime errands a couple of times a week into the village - 4 miles each way. Northeast USA weather is a factor (c-c-cold, and snow), but I doubt I will ride during the worst of it. 400 ft. climb to and from work.
Frame a) Hardtail MTB with suspension fork. Aluminum frame. Rack eyelets. 9-speed dropouts.
Frame b) Steel road frame and fork. Rack eyelets. 6-, 7-speed dropouts. 1" steerer.
I'm leaning toward the MTB for durability and ease of finding good parts. The road frame would require, generally, obsolete parts.
This is my first effort towards commuting on two wheels.
