hah. you should come over here and try to work in my cube. i wish these people in it had the inner resources to slack without yammering at someone else.

ah hah. what you're talking about there is enforced slacking. that's the wrong kind, no rejuvenative value at all, hence unconstructive, hence bad for you. this kind is the other, positive, different kind that makes us into the perky, productive, positive members of society that we all are

it's the unconstructive slacking that's the grit in the drivechain of the soul. our kind is the lube.

lord. i have to go sleep. i'm writing country-western music for the biking world.

We have offices . Cubes are a MUCH more social setup. I've had two jobs with offices and three with cubes and overall I'd say I prefer cubes.

I've done both as well and I have to say that I prefer the office.

Of course, as a general rule, I don't really like people, so I try to keep my socially ******** self from having to engage in too much interaction.

have to admit i do too, but not so much for the social factor. it's just irritatingly inefficient to run a multi-person project when the right hand sitteth not where the left hand sitteth. if it weren't for cubes i'd never know what the heck was going on.

i dunno though about 'social slacking'. you have to be an extrovert to think like that. for us more normal introvert types, the very concept is an oxymoron.

Bikes: 8 bikes - one for each day of the week!

I have a job where the actual work may dry up by lunchtime some days. Leaves me with 4 hours to surf the net. Of course, the next day I will get work that needed to be done two days ago. Somewhere in there, I have an awful lot of time to spend on bikeforums and ebay. As an added bonus, I was given a nice big corner office, with a glass front (and a remote control A/C unit ). My desk is situated so you have to come in and stand behind me to see my computer screen. No one creeping up and peeking over my shoulder. It's all good.
