Please people, remember to warm up before you put the hammer down .... I had to take a 10 minute brake on my commute for not warming up before getting up to speed. Nothing better that your lungs closing like
"it is too cold! .... no way we are staying open"

I almost passed out! .. speaking of a long commute today

Anyone else had this happened .... "lung strike"?

It was only 35F this morning and I know enough to take it easy for the first .5 mile before getting up to a comfortable cadence. As for putting the hammer down...nah, my commute's too short and there's too much traffic for that.

I have asthma, so I have to be careful to watch for anything like that. I haven't had any attacks in a year, but there's always the chance. As long as I warm up, I'm usually doing good for the rest of the ride.

I have a long steady hill at the beginning of my ride that gets me pretty warmed up. Going home is another story. The turn out of work goes up a short but steep hill with a traffic light at the top. If I'm trying to catch the light, I end up sprinting up it on completely cold legs and lungs. It's never a good feeling but I do it all the time. I'll learn eventually.

I did feel it a bit today in the nasal passages especially. Lungs-wise, no problems (yet).

For the last 3 days its been 22, 23, and today, 21 degrees when I left the house. I don't usually hammer to hard on the way to work, I save that for the ride home. This morning I was pushing harder though, but, unlike last fall/winter I didn't get the cold coughs. I wonder why? Usually it wrecks my lungs pretty good.

Oh, and I didn't get watery eyes either, except for the first few times it was under 40 degrees, then that went away altogether.

I can ride in the cold air with no warm-up, but sometimes my lungs close up after the ride. ["Oh, you're done? Well so are we!"] I've been diagnosed with exercise-induced athsma and chronic bronchitis, but I only seem to get lung-swell once or twice a year.

Get one of those anti-pollution masks. They do wonders for keeping your breath warm but keep the fabric off of your mouth, unlike a scarf.

Would it be wrong to brag about our beautiful spring weather? A forecast top of 32 celsius (90 Fahrenheit) tomorrow will make perfect commuting weather.

I have asthma also. I find that a balacava or Sugoi Thermal Tube help to cover my mouth and pre-warm the air.
