Bikes: Surly Cross-Check

Just tooting my own horn. I made a local cycling publication's, "Commuter of the Month" column. Enjoy reading it here: https://www.pointcyclingnews.com/articles.html or after November you can find it here:

Cool. But... $55/month fees for metro and bus?

It's $71 for the same combo pass (subway and bus) in Boston. And we don't have bike racks on our busses. Lame.

This was a good article! Cheers!

Haha it said that riding to work is easy if you have a car to fall back to. Actually riding without a liscence is easier cause there is'nt a car to fall back to when you feel lazy...

I believe it is $76 for rush hour bus use only here in St. Paul/Minneapolis. I think it is $104 if you use bus and train. Both have a bicycle carrier in the front. Trouble is, it interferes with some front racks and most front panniers. Not perfect, but better than none.

There also is the MetroPass, which many companies subsidize so some riders pay under $50 a month for 20+ roundtrip commutes.

If I took the bus the whole way it would be $135 a month.
Using it part of the way part of the time it costs me $50 a month.

My wife usually has the car and I am now using the Metrolink / Bus to allow me not to have to rely on the car. I am working towards not having to use it at all (car). There are more transit friendly places to live and St. Louis isn't the best. It is getting better slowly. They are adding a new extension to our Metrolink system. Many more larger cities have more advanced systems than St. Louis (CA, D.C., NY). However I see more and more articles and books that actually praise St. Louis for their Metrolink system. You can go from the Airport all the way to Scott Air Force Base in IL (end to end). Here is a link to more information on the new extension to be completed in 2006: https://www.crosscountymetro.org/about.asp I figure the cost of my $55 metro pass is equal to a gym membership. I am working on getting better winter stuff so I won't have to take the bus as much. But if it gets really super cold I can do it. The bike racks are really helpful. From the other posts it looks like there are many bus systems that don't have this feature. Thanks for reading!

Keep Cycling,

Way to commute and donate a car, KB0tnv! Thanks for sharing. Your horn deserves to be tooted. Toot on!

I liked reading the article following yours too - about a bike co-op up here in Minneapolis.
