I order a lot of stuff from Nashbar, and my experience has led me to upgrade all orders to 2-day. I'm not sure where the problem lies, but ground shipping takes AT LEAST 10 days, usually up to 14 days through the USPS. It's too bad, I like USPS because the mailman has keys to my building so he will leave packages inside instead of the dang notice from UPS/ FedEx.

In other news, the tracking system for USPS never shows anything but "electronic info recieved" until days after I get the package. Anywho, just spring the $3 for upgraded shipping.

Semi-related comments.
gNashbar was purchased by illPerformance a few years ago. Switching from one to the other really doesn't change whom you're buying from.

I've bought from Harris, Peter Jon White, Rivendell, Wallingford, Performance, Colorado Cyclist, and gNashbar and had pretty good luck from them all. Yet, if I want it now (yeah, I'm a big baby sometimes) I buy from the LBS. Most of my big ticket stuff I get locally. Exception is hub generator stuff comes from PJW.

Don't forget, this is the season for shipping times to lengthen, from everyone.

When you call them, Nashbar has the feel of a small operation. You save a ton of money on price, and it's worth a little inconvenience.

Edit: Here's the shipping table from Nashbar for standard and 2-day shipping. The price difference between standard and 2-day ranges from $3.30 to $2.95. (Although they have a promotion for $.99 standard shipping right now).

Merchandise Total: Up to $20.00/$20.01 to $50.00/$50.01 to $100.00/$100.01 to $150.00/$150.01+
Standard Shipping/Handling: $4.95/$6.45/$7.95/$9.45/$10.45
FedEx 2-Day Service: $8.25/$9.45/$10.75/$12.45/$13.45
Once again, if time is important, pay the few bucks or don't complain.
You are right that an extra $3.00 is worth it if one doesn't want to wait. But the issue here is how long is too long for standard shipping. I think two weeks is a ridiculously long time for a small, light package to travel 473 miles. According to Google maps, that is an 8 hour and 45 minute trip, not a two week trip. Even if it is Christmas time, two weeks for this distance is way too long. But, I'm still not "complaining". The intent of my initial post was to ask others about their experiences with Nashbar and to figure out if this was normal or if I needed to start worrying about a possible lost package. Next time, I'll pay the extra two or three bucks.

Ah, but you're in Oregon, with no sales tax. The shipping is frequently less of a concern than the tax you'll pay in some states.

Memberships can help, if you know that you're going to buy enough to cover that cost of the membership fee. For Performance, for instance, you'd have to buy at least $200 worth of merchandise in the year to cover the membership fee. Not hard to do if you're buying a bike or when you're first outfitting, but hopefully not an annual expenditure.

Fedex and UPS are both currently routing packages via the north pole and santa's workshop customs free zones. DHL, the socialist anti santa's shipper of choice, is still running with the devil for fastest service. The US Postal Service is subcontracting holiday parcel handling via Haliburton subsidiaries operating out of Albania and variously, Uzbekistan and Azerbiajan for express delivery.

It might take a little longer than usual this month.

I am supprized to see all the responses that say they are slow. I order quite a bit from them. I am in New Mexico and my orders come with in a week. I work for a company that does web/mail orders and i wish we could get stuff out the door as quick as they do. Once i placed an order, an hour or so later i called to change the quantity of one of the items. They said it was already out the door. Three days later i got the order. I would contact them if you are haveing delivery problems.

I beleive the actually location is Albonia. Word has it that Dilbert has been ordered there to implement SAP to improve and LEAN their shipping process. Apparently his boss has told the CEO that by using the Albonian PO, they can get packages there in 4-12 hours instead of waiting until the next day or "overnight" shipping from the other guys. Dilbert claims he told the "ole pointy haired one" that it was foolish seeing as there was no one at the building to receive packages at 1AM, but he was undeterred. Sadly the Albonian mud when splashed on the labels regardless of ink type, resulted in complete illegibility. Rendering all the packages the permenant unclaimed possession of the Albonian PO. Not likely you'll see those presents, overnight boy.

I forgot about the Albonian connection, - thought they were part of the 'axis of evil'- but obviously Albonia kept its' 'most favored nation' trading status. Thanks for the correction, Yooper!

Really? That is surprising as I still haven't received my stuff, which they said was shipped on Dec 2nd. Did you use standard shipping too, or something quicker?

I always use standard shipping because with most outfits this option is free. I see it came USPS. Don't know if it helps that I live just one block from the main post office.

I ordered something last Tuesday that was supposed to go out 2-day, but went parcel post instead (see my post in another thread for details). It took them an extra day to process the order, so it didn't get mailed until Wednesday.

It arrived today, so, starting with the order date, it took eight days to get from Youngstown, Ohio to Columbus, Ohio. That's typical of my experience with parcel post (seven days from the shipping date).

At least Nashbar made it right. They over-nighted a duplicate order, and sent me a FedEx mailing label so I can return the pacel post package at their expense.

Holiday Schmoliday. I ordered on December 11, and my package arrived today, December 15. Now that's good! Standard shipping in this instance = FedEx Home delivery.

I've ordered from Nashbar a lot, I haven't had a problem with them yet *knock on wood*. About 5 days is typical for me out in Oregon. I just ordered a hub from them yesterday...let's time it!

BTW, the cheap 700 x 23 tubes are actually even cheaper than they appear. "One" is really a bag of two. I thought I was ordering 4 and received 8. Some of my friends are about to get inner tubes as gifts. Here's the description:
Inner Tube – 700X32 Presta Valve

Factory overstock. Butyl rubber with presta valve. For use with tires from 700x32 to 42c. Nothing fancy.
Item No. » YT-HT1
Reg $4.95
now $2.48
Your results may vary.

Try this:

1. Go to www.bikenashbar.com

2. You should then see four orange buttons at the very top of the page. Click the button on the far right which says 'Order Status'

3. Enter the Order Number (should be in the confirmation e-mail that was sent after you placed the order), and the zip code that the package is supposed to be sent to, and press enter

4. In the Shipment information section of the screen, there should be a tracking #. At the end of the tracking # theres a 'track Package' link. The rest should be easy...

Atleast that's how it works for me...

I must have very good luck this month. I sent out A SNAIL MAIL (37 cent stamp) order on 12/8/05 and received them Standard Fed-X 12/15/05.

My order 2 Nashbar studded tires/AKA Kenda Klondike and 2 Nashbar Gor-Tex Riding pants.

I have been checking this thread. I was like oh great I should expect my stuff in January.

Way to go Nashbar.

I placed an order yesterday morning (about 10 AM) with the cheapo ground shipping. I've got an email today with a Fed-Ex ground tracking # that it will be delivered tomorrow.

In the past, I've had some 10 day shipping experiences when they used USPS.

That works but not with USPS. USPS doesn't have tracking.

BTW, my order finally showed up. Shipped on the 6th and arrived on the 16th.

My order showed up today.
Shipped: December 2nd
Delivered: December 16th
Approximate Speed: 1.4 mph (473 miles in 14 days) Would have been faster to ride there.
Lesson Learned: Never use standard shipping if you are impatient (I was one hour away from calling them up when it arrived)

my order arrived today, Dec 17th. Order was placed on Dec 12th 10:00 pm. Order was more than 50$, so the shipping fee was 0.99$. Really happy. It takes five day for the shipping. I am at Austin, TX. Ship though Fedex. Happy Christmas.

I live not 50 miles from Nashbar in Canfield. My last order was made on the 11th, effectively the 12th since it was a Sunday and it's still not here. But Nashbar Customer Service will tell you to wait 10-14 days on normal shipping. They use APEX as their agent with USPS, and all orders first get shipped to Apex in York, PA before going to USPS. Performance also uses Apex, not sure about Supergo. I always opt for the 2nd day shipping if I am in a hurry to get something from any of them.

Nashbar is incredibly slow. Absolutely no reason to wait two weeks for a small package to come by mail. I just ordered on ebay an new Cateye Tail Light, for less (including shipping) than Nashbar or Performance, and it came from Oregon to Florida in four days. With all the posts about them, I am surprised that their management hasn't picked up on discontent. Price is one thing, but people want to receive merchandise in a short turn around. I put a link to the light if anyone is interested, still a bunch available. I have no ownership or involvement with the vendor, just sharing a good deal
