How many commuting miles did you do in 2005. Count to-and-from work, errands, In fact any time the ride replaced the use of a car. Like riding to and from the start of a club or social ride.

LOL, "replaced the use of a car". How car-centric of you. How about "replaced the use of a car or mass transit"? Or are you only interested in responses from car people? (serious question)
BTW, I honestly don't know how many miles. I'd say probably between 1K and 2K, but that's because I only commuted about five months this year at most.

I just started commuting in September I believe. I don't do any club or social rides. Does riding with my wife count? My odometer on my computer will break just over 1000 on the way home tonight. Just barely made it.

I think the choices need to be more spread out between 2 and 4 K miles. I believe most of us fall somewhere in there and there is a lot of variance. I am much closer to 2k than 4k.

2020.3 miles
114 days
43.8% of the workdays riding to work
Saved 245 gallons of fuel @ $2.5/gal (avg) for a $612 savings
More importantly, I didn't spew 4804 lb or 2.4 tons of CO2 into the air!
I also didn't pour 7,354,000 kcals of heat into the environment. That's the equivalent of 29,417 jelly donuts! Unfortunately, I only burned the equivalent of 242 jelly donuts. And I didn't even get to eat a single one

I put 500-1000 but there's a chance I'm just over the 1000 mark. I commuted a month or so before getting a computer, had about 350-400 miles on the odometer when it broke. Went a month or so before getting a new one, and I've got just under 300 miles on this odometer. Given that I commute avg 4 days a week 9 miles a day 4 weeks a month = 144 miles a month means I probably have around 288 miles not on my odometers... so I'm really close to 1000.

funny I always think I should put a sign on my bike that says. "One less car on the road." but then I've realized that truthfully it should say, "One more seat on the bus." I read a European study that showed that an increase in cycle commuting actually had more impact on public transit use than automobile use.
mileage- I only commute September to May. In the summer I use a road and mountain bike and it's not purely transportation mileage. But I know I zeroed my cyclometer on my commuter on March 1st and it now reads 3331.4 miles (5361.K). My bus ride is $2.20 into town so that's a considerable savings in cash since it represents between 130 and 150 days of commuting- ($616+/-)

Can't really answer this with any precision so I clicked the 2-4K button. I have a 8 mile r/t that I do pretty much every day. Even with vacations and the occassioal wimp-out day I know I've got 2000 miles or so according to these criteria. And I always ride to the ride so that's another couple of hundred miles.

Hmmm, just for 2004 since March I have ~7,400 miles on my Martin Novato, ~4,000 miles on my Sun EZ-3 USX, and with my two back up bikes I say about ~500 miles thats about ~11,900 miles. So for 2005 its about ~6,500 miles. It is so nice not having a car.

My good start came to a less successful end because of a part-time late-night job, kid schedules, and early snow. I use my bike only for commuting to my day job. Trips to the grocery store, post office, library, do take place, but not enough to count. My trip to work is six miles out, eight back (less traffic) for a total of 14 miles.

I just finished off my year's data. 1760 miles. Quite a bit off, I did 2366 in 2004. I failed myself and pretty much gave up after a very disheartening day last year and didn't commute pretty much the rest of the winter, then I took all of August off (worked from home while my wife recoup'd from surgery) - and August is prime biking time.
I'm shooting for 3000 next year. I do 22 miles a day, so that's only 30 nickels (full weeks of commuting). Shouldn't be unachievable.

On a lighter side this years' stats for commuters in my local bike club follow. Some members do not submit miles as they are embarressed by the few miles they do running errands. But the club does count such miles:
0 0
1-100 16
101-200 12
201-300 5
301-400 6
401-500 5
501-1000 7
1001-2000 9
2001-4000 8
4000 plus 1
That is 69 riders out of a club membership around 700.

Thanks for the response to my poll. I use a program called Velologger and note every last fragment of riding. My "little errands" ran over 500 miles. You deserve credit for every mile you used muscle powered vehicles.

I'm at 3746 miles for the year after my last commute home. I rode my bike every day I went to work this year, plus to the airport and train station for business trips.
I had hoped to break 4K miles, but that's a goal for next year I guess.

Wednesday was my last commute for the year. 4595.72 miles for the year. My personal best for not starting my truck was 3 weeks and 1 day. I was hoping for more bike mileage, but projects at home and long days at work conspired against me. There's always next year I guess.

conservative estimate... about 440
I'm counting between-class trail/around-campus rides also
I also started commuting in September so this is just the last four months of the year
add 15 extra miles if doing the Ride Of The Living Dead in College Park last Halloween counts also

The total this year was
-Commuting 2650 miles (4250 km) since I started in march
-Mountainbiking 1000 miles (1600 km) all year round
-Shopping trips family visits etc ???I estimate 400 miles or so
I started commuting because my girlfriends new job has very odd times at which so doesn't want to ride trough a forest at night. It saved us from buying a second car. But my main reason now is that is like it a lot.

I managed ~4,200 commuting miles (5,400 total miles) this year. I didn't start seriously commuting (i.e. trying for 5 days a week every week) until the end of September (coinsided with the building of my fixed gear) so just under half of those miles are from the last three months of this year (my commute is 32.5 miles round trip).
I'm shooting for 8,000 miles next near, 5-6K of which should come from commuting.

According to my computer, I hit roughly 2350 miles this year. I want to get an earlier start in 2006 to hopefully drive that number up a bit.
