Im not commuting at the moment as my only safe route to do the ride is a bike trail thats got too much snow ice ... I ride it 14 miles out of my 18 commute. the only other route I can take is a 4 lane no shoulder not too safe ride so im grounded except for fun rides.

My cross check is set up with a carradice nelson and that works out nice for my clothes lunch ...

I also employ a small handlebar bag for convinience items but I found last year it was much too small it just was barley big enough for my multi lens glasses and wallet/keys

I was stopping and getting off my bike to take off /put on hat, gloves, wind shirt, answer /make calls on cell phone ETC.


So yes I need a larger handle bar bag.

Im down to 3 choices but Im open to others

my 3 choices are

1) ortlieb, pricey , I like the water resistance factor but all in all its just a box with no place to orginize small stuff no useful pockets , the add on velcro pockets dont look too practical. but all weather is good.

2) Jandd tour # 1 , nice size a few external pockets 2 mesh on side, one front zip pocket, rain cover is an option

3) Lone peak bags , look decent and similar to Jandd

a quick release is a must.

any other suggestions?? Im all eyes.

Rivendell/Frost River have several front bags that would complement the look of your Carradice Nelson. They are made from canvas cloth similar to the Carradice. There are several various sizes and configurations.

What's wrong with the Carradice barbag? I use mine in all weathers, it has R&K quick release clips. There is an zipped internal pocket and 2 internal side pockets.

The Carridice Super C bar bag does look nice. Otherwise you can't go wrong with Ortleib. I hate those droopy Rivendell bar bags. At least get something with a map case lid.

topeak has a good quality tourer and even larger expedition h-bar bags. their mount slipped for me if u overloaded the larger bag. jandds have a life-time warrenty, made in california, and sturdy mount system thar can be removed to go with the bag (not disappear). have fun!

Why? Most commuters know their route to work pretty well.
