February Commuting Challenge

8/12 this month. Don't count the weekends or Fridays off, just the days I work. Nice balmy 25 this morning. Getting really used to the 15-25F degree range. My feet only start to freeze below 15, which we haven't had much of this winter. Will be in the 40s when I go home.
Do you realize we gained 15 minutes of daylight in the afternoon since the beginning of this month? Used to be pitch dark when I left work. last week I rode home in the daylight and I felt like I was flying because I could see so far in front of me.

Well, I guess I'll have to start bringing my bike in the back from now on. I just had to mop up my bicycle tracks in the hallway. We have a $8/hr janitor on staff, but if they wanna pay me $25/hr to push a mop, I guess that's their perogative.

11/13 26/30 My days are getting quite busy so I almost forgot to update. Weather was nice this morning at 20 F with a light breeze. I figured out tomrrow so I'll still be riding.
I can't believe they made you mop up!

14 for 17 this month...
-23c with a -31c windchill..
nice ride this morning.
McG: it's funny that you mention the extra daylight. i had made a comment about that the previous night as i left for a recurring evening appointment. it IS much brighter!! it is it is!!
i love riding in the cold, but i'm looking forward to some family rides this spring.
my kid turns 14 this week and we're going to get a MTB as a present. possibly used, since i have found some pretty decent bargains.
later.

12/14 27/31 Flurries this morning made the ride look interesting. I'm starting to get a rep...As I walked into the building to the locker room 4 people I have never met told me how they thought I made good time since they passed me on a road near work. Interesting. I'm getting a fasting blood test this morning. No food/caffene(sp) until after the appt at 11:30. I'm getting quite hungry!

The commute is getting very routine now. That's a good thing. Zipped by a half mile stretch of cars on the way to work, all waiting to merge and get past the slow traffic light. I loved it! A balmy 20-25F degrees.

Oog, the cold came on fast this afternoon. It was 45*F and clear when I left, 28*F and riding into a damp 30MPH headwind with sharp, stinging snow 50 minutes later.

i love passing cars!!
i'm starting early now, so there's not much traffic to pass. i may not have the thrill of passing cars, but at least i feel a little safer.
-18c with no wind.... nice fast ride this morning.
i leaned right over my handlebars and gave 'er. the speed got me craving a road bike again. my goal this summer is to find a cheap garage-sale or police auction road bike to tuneup and baby. maybe make it a fixie...
have a great wknd folks!!

2/3 for the week, 5/7 for the month. Wimped out Wednesday due to light rain and no fenders/rain gear. I will be buying some soon! Tried to pick some up at the LBS Wednesday evening, but all they had were foofoo Townie fenders -not that there's anything wrong with those on the appropriate bike, but my bike is not suited for white fenders with daisies... They want $50 to order me a set of the same SKS I can get online for $30, so I'll be ordering online I guess...
Shooting for 3/3 next week!

Looking good on the riding and gym but not so good on the swimming. Next months targets should be more realistic.

All possible commuting days still in tact for the year - Puncture this morning though spoiled my ride. Thats one for this month and five!! for the year to date. Decided to try different tyres and am having my LBS switch me onto Schwalbe Marathons (1.75) ahead of my return tonight. Hoping for a bit mote resilience and a perhaps a faster roll too...heres hoping.
Stay safe everyone.

13/15 28/32 I was late leaving this morning, but the easterly wind got me to work on time. The wind almost NEVER blows from the east! Now I just hope it returns to normal before I go home. Not likely. one more day to go.

14/18 for the month
Which is very good for me since I only managed to ride 8 times in January. Rode over 200 miles this month which is my upper goal for each month. My initial goal is at least 150 a month. If March is warm (which it should be, forcast for tomorrow is 72!) I am hoping to get at least 200+.

Falling down on the job here... I said no sick days for me for February, but I didn't account for the young'ns! Double ear infection in the youngest had both the wife and I up most of the night Sunday, so no ride yesterday - needed that extra 30 minutes of sleep, and my wife needed me home early so she could get some rest, too. And no ride tomorrow due to schedule oddities that will have me in the car for a good part of the work day. Not sure what that leaves me for the month, but I know it's not where I wanted to be. On the positive, I've put more miles on the bike since the last week of January than I have since I got it 7 years ago. March will be a better commuting month, barring major storms...
Edit: Tomorrow is March... man, where did the month go?

14/16 29/33 Well...February was a good month for me...152 commuting miles, two centuries (only one fully outdoor) and several trainer sessions. Total miles for the month of around 400. Thanks for participating everyone. I hope you got something out of the challenge.

I've got a flu or something that has been kickin' the ***** out of me. It's really hi-jacked my cycling goals. I missed 2 full days of work, and 2 days I've gone, have been unable to pedal.
15/19 feb 36/40 YTD.
Summary for February:
Commuting mileage: 153km
Non-commuting: 35km
Total: 188km

17/17 Feb, 38/38 Year. Kudos to DogBoy for this inspiring thread, I'd have fallen off the wagon by now without the fear of shame :-)
I roll my bike over 5000 miles day after tomorrow (4966 now, 21 miles a day). I've had it a bit less than 2 years.
389 miles for Feb, 851 for the year. I've also started some light/short upper body workouts for a little toning.
March may be tough. I've been working 6AM to 2PM, but this month I'm getting a week's training in .NET and the classes run from 9AM to 7PM. Adding a 40 minute commute may irritate the SO. I'll try though.

Not too good on the swimming target but hit rest so quite happy. Next months targets should be more realistic.
