You will be working for a company that makes extra loud car horns and oversize mirrors for pickups, they are located at the busiest intersection of a major industrial area in Houston Texas and you will be there for two years. Final answer.

it would be qa, and it would be a year. i just recently finished six months of working for a different company in the same park, and loathing almost every minute of it - but i did graduate to at least a love/hate situation wrt the ride. and my kid's just moved up an age-level in the baseball system, so i don't really know what kind of logistics i'd be trying to work around. dunno where he'll play or how often or with who, or what the practice demands will be . . .

i'm probably fretting about nothing. it's a pretty intimidating job description, BUT. if i do get the offer everyone please remember and remind me as put ma hand on ma hairt an' ma hairt in ma mooth and i make this solemn promise.

if i have to ride there and back for a year, and also try to make every ball game, i will take the additional dollar or two i'm bidding for over the course of a full year, and i will so-help-me-god go and buy myself a real bike to do it on.

how's your shoulder coming along?

Custom sized steel framed Marinoni. They'll even put your name on the top bar when they make it.
They build to suit so your not paying for components on a stock bike then replacing them with your own.

Pick a better seat, some ambrosio focus wheels, a veloce 10 spd compact double (for vancouver hills) and your all set

Takes fenders and rack

https://www.marinoni.qc.ca/html/en_ciclo.html

Ugly pic but shows one with a rack installed

A blue IRO Rob Roy SS/FG w/ a honey colored Brooks B17 saddle. Light, fast, nimble, and easy maintenance. That's pretty much why I bought one.

maudit. check-moi jarery's bike. based in quebec city, too.

i was going to test-ride a couple of rocky mountain bikes i saw in my travels this afternoon, until the guy unlocking them gave me some of the cheap-ass smartassery i spent my kid's 15th year helping him to outgrow. but just up the road from that jerk is a Real bike store that let me try out a bunch of their jamis stock, till i found the coda . . . .

*drool* i should probably do a bit more research than that, right?

If you do go for the Marinoni, head out to cloverdale. Cloverdale bikes is a small lbs run by the nicest irishman and his daughter, both who race and win, and have spent their lives cycling, who will spend a LOT of time fitting you and sending the correct measurements off to marinoni. Bike isnt complety custom built, but is sized to you.

More research ?

Well, you KNOW your gonna get buyers remorse unless you scour the city

My next bike will be built for me, not pulled off a rack, and all components will be ones I choose, not some marketing genius

With that in mind, and wanting to go to a smaller builder who most likely still has some semblance of quality control, the field narrows to only a few makers, and narrows even more to ones within my price range.

But there is always some gems of deals to be found. Like the one im riding now

You should consider giving a copy of this message to the shop manager.

cloverdale??? jeesh; even summer baseball hasn't taken me to cloverdale. you talk like i'm someone to whom cars come naturally. i will get lost, if i don't hit a cow. on the other hand, irish people . . . hmm.

you've been commuting either a lot longer or a lot more seriously than me. i'm in the process of successive approximation still; i haven't been around long enough to have opinions about components. my showstopper list so far has been:

first bike criteria: is it pink?
2nd bike criteria: will i care if someone steals it?
now: how much does it weigh?

that jamis looks nice
