Ever Seen A 3/4" Stem?

I've been converting a late 80's rigid Miyata mountain bike into a commuter, and have a question about the stem and/or the headset. At present it has a 3/4" quill stem with a 3/4" headset. After comparing the headtube diameter of another older bike I have (with 1" quill stem/headset), I notice that the diameter is smaller, hence i suspect the reason it has a 3/4" headset. my question is.....i have seen 1 to 1 1/8" stem adaptors, but anyone seen a 3/4 to 1 1/8" so I can run another stem?? Or option (2)..... does anyone know if a 1" headset would fit a current 3/4" headset, so i could convert? Thanks for the help, Newbie in Oregon
