Well I wanted to put a mud flap on my bike but did not want to drill through my polycarbonate Freddy Fenders for fear of damaging them. So I spotted some velcro with adhesive backing at work along with some rubber mats that truck drivers throw away stacked in a pile and it all came together. I cut a swatch 11" long, 3" top & 4" at the bottom, placed the velcro on the inside of my front fender & on the top of my mud flap. Now I have an easily removable mud flap that I can keep in my bag and only use when needed without damaging my precious Freddys.

Looks good, hadn't thought of using velcro for that, and it's my personal answer to problems that don't call for duct tape! Thanks for the idea.

Thanks guys. Gojohnnygo, so far they are holding up nicely. The velcro used is of a heavier industrial quality that our maintenance department uses so it should continue to hold well.

Brilliant! This will be my next mudflap design...I hate the ziptie solution I'm currently using (fugly). The velcro holds good enough as to not be ripped off in the wind/rain?

wmgardner, I've taken her out today in some heavy rain and they have stood the test thus far. As stated the velcro I am using in an industrial type, it has a much better adhesive backing and heavier loop/nap. I have to pull at a pretty decent force to remove it. I may add a bolt or two at the bottom to help "anchor" it some. I have since rounded the bottom a bit, a little personal touch just to satisfy me.

Nice job. You have the right idea with the length, too. Gotta be long to keep the goodies clean. That industrial velro is plenty strong.

It's been 1 full week with it and its held up fine. It was just a tad loose today when I pulled into work, not much just a tad. But that just gave me another reason to tinker some more. I decided to make another one & double the velcro used, I also shaped the bottom a little for my amusement. Now I'm using a 1.75" by 2.25" strip. This holds amazingly well, I think I may have found true winner with this one.

It helps to turn the bike over when placing the "hook" part on the inside of the fender, you may even want to take the front wheel off. Make sure you clean the inside of the fender well, I used alcohol. Tire clearance has not been an issue at all. I also made a small "patch" that will fit over the "hook" part of the fender when I'm not using the mud flap so debris won't get caught on it. It's just small piece of the same rubber mat that I used for the mud flap.

If anyone else decides to do this let me know how yours is working out for you & if you made any improvements?

Has the material that the velcro attaches too get dirty from dry road grime at all yet? It seems like it may not hold as well as it get dustier with dirt, rubber, etc. I am planning on making a similar flap, but using the velcro on the outside instead of the inside just for this reason.

I think if the "hook" side is on the fender and the "loop" (soft) side is on the flap, it'd be OK. The hook side shouldn't hold that much dirt very well.

My current solution (I haven't had the time to build the velcro ones yet) has my flaps ziptied on the outside of the fender, which allowed me to do it without drilling any holes, but it sure is ugly. I really like the look of the mudflaps when they are attached to the inside of the fender, so I'm really hoping that the velcro option will work well for me.
