That's an inspiring story. You're a hero to your community and if you ever get in the local news, I'm sure you'll have people donating bikes left and right for you to keep up the good work!

I do the same thing. If someone ask me where I got my Peugeot PB-14 from I tell them I got it for $10.00. Then they ask if I can get them one so i do and fix it up for them. Right now I know where two more Peugeot frames are a long with 3 Schwinn frames all of them are $10.00 each

Wow, I've never had a post go two pages. Thanks for all the kind words. I really do think that once an adult gets on a bike they connect with some feelings that they had as a child.
We have a program in our town where you can borrow a bike for as long as you want but (and I'm not faulting the program here) they use low end bikes and just barely get them working. There's so many early 1990's mountain bikes out there that it's easy to find some high quality stuff and get it running again.
I think the best part about this is that all the new riders I've started are really happy even though their bikes don't have the latest carbon-fiber reninforced double butted titanium alloy water-bottle cage with lock-out. They just ride and it's cool.
Thanks again for the nice replys. Give someone a bike...it's like riding home from work with a tailwind!

You're so right, this is very cool!
You have really earned them. You are the man.
I might just do that. In fact, I will ask my friend today if he would use a bike if he had one.

You've inspired me. I have two friends that have short commutes. They've both expressed interest in riding, but have real beater bikes. I've been busy working on mine, and have put off helping them out. Maybe I'll get off my ass and do it next weekend.
