Folding Commuters
So far I have been bike commuting 3 times per week, with a distance of 16.5 miles one way. I would like to bump that up to a 5 day per week bike commute. But I am one of thoes people who has to go to buisness meetings at another near-by facility, so I take my car in for thoes 2 days.
Our area has a decent bus system that goes by the two plants that I have to visit in the Capitol Region in Connecticut. Unforunatley every other bus system IN connecticut (Stanford, New Haven, Middletown.. etc) have bike racks on busses, except for Hartford's. There is a bike in bus policy, but only when the wheelchair space is empty, AND the bus is empty. And that is never the case on the bus that I wish to take, its ALWAYS packed.
I would love to just bike to the other facilities I have meetings at, but I tend to sweat quite a bit espically when they are 15 miles away, and I am unsure of the changing facilities I have to visit.
But I was thinking of going Intermodal, and buying a folding bike and taking it on the bus, seeing that its considerably less volume than a full sized bike. I was thinking of just biking 3-4 miles to a bus stop on the folding bike, an taking the bus to my meetings, and maybe biking 1/2 a mile to meetings.
Anyone here commute on a folding bike, or just have a folding bike that works for them? I am a 6'3" guy weighing about 210, do they make folding bikes in my size

Jet powered, here at Bike Forums we have a sub-forum especially for folders.
I ride my Dahon Speed 7 folder about 5 miles a day to the park & ride and back. It's a hilly ride and I use all seven gears.
I have also used it when taking the Metrolink here in the LA area.
I'm 6'1", 230#. That folder is great!
The folder is a bit whippier than my Canondale MTB, but what do you expect?
Check with your local transportation authorities to see what their policies on taking a bike on board are.
See you over in the Folding Forum!

I have a brompton. i'm 6'3" 200lbs. the brompton is the best for folding. you can now get a titanium one, which is much lighter. be sure to get a reinforced seatpost, because you will bend the standard.
