NYC: Hudson Greenway closure
Today it looks like the section from the tennis courts in the shadow of the GWB is closed going north. When I took a detour to Riverside Drive to go up 181st (be careful, lots of fast traffic) I saw that there was some heavy machinery by the rock slide, so it looks like that's finally being cleared.

#@$%!%@!$*)(!@*$)!!!!!!!!!! The stupid thing was closed this morning. I was going to visit dear, old Dad in Bklyn, and to make him happy I promised to go Greenway all the way if I could. Had to turn around, back the "Mur de GWB" and tried the "shortcut" along the highway path. BAD IDEA. It was a total mess. Maybe with a 'cross bike or MTB it would have been a good idea, oy! Anyhow, got back on the Greenway behind the tennis courts... and by the time I reached the treatment plant I found I had a front flat. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!
The worst part is that it's with a new rim and new tire which are VERYVERYVERY tight. Longest I ever took to change a tire, I swear! Then I got rained on coming back (just now), though I took Riverside to avoid the Greenway shenanigans. Drivers get even crazier when it rains -- the ride up was qiute a rush!

I can't believe that stuff is a regular thing these days. It sounds like the 80s when people riding in Central Park would get clotheslined off their rides. Did you just hear about it or actually read about it?

This was from last week's prospect peleton group email.
Not the thread I want to start, but everyone should take note. Location:
Riverside Drive coming south at Grants Tomb. This morning, around 6 am, I
was grabbed by three young men (late teens?), two of whom took my bike and
one of whom held me down while the bike was put in a car. When it happened,
I had stopped for water and was straddling the bike, out of my pedals. I was
pushed down to the ground where I stayed until I was sure they were gone. I
did not see the car. They threatened me but never showed a weapon. It took
about 15 seconds total, I think. I accepted a ride from a motorist to the
nearest precinct on W 126. Apparently there have been other thefts/assaults
there, on solo cyclists who have stopped, or by the introduction of
marbles/ball bearings that cause a rider to stop.
I am bruised but unhurt. We all love our bikes, but it is a fully
replaceable item. I do want to say that I am truly, truly touched by the
kind words of NYCC members who have heard about this. I won't be riding but
will be in the Berkshires this weekend and look forward to saying 'thank
you' in person.
REPORT THEFTS. If there is a pattern, the police need to know - and
insurance companies require police reports.
Don't let these jerks get away with it. It was light, and I was not the only
person out there - but it took only seconds.
See you on the roads.
Description:
Giant OCR, composite frame, grey with red trim, red seat bag. Less than a
month old and only about 400 miles on the bike. TOGA decals.

Are you serious? That's ridiculous. It's tempting to get this into the papers or on local news to focus on the problem, but then that would no doubt inspire copycat crimes. And they're using marbles?? I don't mean to make light, but who's committing these crimes, Natasha and Boris?
