A kid threw an egg at me on my commute home - on a nice, quiet little (OK - long straightaway) side street in the 'burbs. I took it on the arm at elbow height. It splattered across my arm and chest, then dripped onto my pants. About 3/4 of a mile later, I took another look at my rear baskets. I saw a piece of eggshell fall off of me from some unknown location, so I must have left a trail of egg parts all the way home! I went out to the backyard and hosed off before coming in and visiting the washing machine.

I was grateful not to have taken the impact in my glasses, helmet, or any of a number of other more tender body parts.

Nothing got on my bike or the stuff in my rear baskets, so I'm glad about that. By the time I got home, the pain was pretty much gone. I did not get my wits about me soon enough to gather a license number. I barely even saw the car. It was raining lightly, so I was looking down and I saw the car just enough to judge that I was out of its way in my own lane. It also came up on me and went past pretty fast.

This story could have had quite a different ending. I'm grateful for the one I got. I have a good story, an egg-shaped red (so far) mark, and, hopefully, a bit more street smarts.

i've never been egged, but i've been snowballed and had a beer bottle thrown at me before. an egg seems like one of the worst things due to the mess.

consider yourself lucky... the latest trend around here is cagers throwing fireworks... yep, they light it up and throw them at the perfect time so they explode right as they hit you. They are usually little firecrackers that won't actually hurt you, but it is very starling, and of course if you flip out too much and crash, they could be fatal!

Egg will ruin a paintjob if it is left on the frame. If you do get egged make sure to get it off the frame right away.

This is the kind of thing people ought to get sued for. Too bad you didn't get a license plate number, YamacrawJ, but if you do in the future, ask a lawyer whether you can get any money out of it in a law suit.

Sorry you're the victim of some kid's "misspent youth". If reporting the incident to the police means he spends part of his misspent youth in jail, it'd help him build character.

I understand that bad things can happen because of an egg, or an unexpected air horn blast, or whatever comes your way. I think it's important to take the time to stop and have some harsh words with the kid or, if possible, involve the parents. But I think it's terrible that everyones answer is always "put them in jail" and "sue them". No one learns anything in jail except that jail sucks. 1 in every 136 US citizens is currently incarcerated - doesn't that make you wonder, what the hell are we doing wrong? Maybe the lack of community we foster these days (such as talking through lawyers instead of to each other) and the lack of respect we have for one another are to blame. I dunno. I'm glad you survived your egging and I hope it doesn't happen to you again.

So I'm headed to the office and a BOLO goes out that a green truck with a couch in the back just egged a cyclist in the county just north of ours. I think to myself poor guy they will probably never catch the ass that threw it. A mere three hundred yards from the Sheriff's Office the truck turns into a house in front of me. (These events of Karma justice are few and far between). He still had the carton and a few incriminating eggs in the front of the truck. Of course he was a juvenile (17). I loaded him up and transported him to the county line where he was turned over to the other jurisdiction. The house he lived in/tuned into was shut down for having a meth lab in it about a year later.

Worst happened to me... Being spat at in slow traffic and coke bottles. Fruit too, but that time the little creeps had bad aim. Usually Jr. High school brats.

I could not tell if the egger was on foot or in a car. The car outweights the cyclist so plate numbers if possible and full details to the police are safest. On foot you might be able to panick the kid into running home. Then you might had rational adults to deal with. Of course a "troubled" kid might have troubled parents . . . verbum sap.

I was swatted on the backside while climbing a hill once. It was a car full of sailors who had just left base. I could have reported it, but as bad as my butt was hurting I figure the guy must have been nursing a broken arm. Kids do dumb things sometimes, never consider the possible consequences...

Last week some redneck in a pickup nailed me with his chaw. Considering that I was doing 19 mph and he was passing at a pretty good clip, he was either extremely lucky or possessed more skill than I would have imagined possible.

I had a kid throw a rock at me a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately for him, he attended (past tense) the high school I teach at. By the time the administration, parents and police got through with him . . . I doubt he will ever look at a gravel road the same again.
