Behind the back pass

OK, so this isn't strictly a commuting story but... it is loosely relevant (move to Foo if necessary!). On my old commute route along the Hudson Greenway I would pass some basketball courts under the highway up around 158th St. I've played there a couple of times, but I've always had it in my head that it would be cool for a loose ball to bounce across my commute route, and I'd be able to pass it back to the court without stopping the bike.

As it turns out, today, while my better half was test riding my folder and I was goofily pedaling along on her way-too-small-for-me hybrid, I had my chance, though not exactly as I had pictured it. Today in NYC featured the Puerto Rican Day Parade, so every PR near NYC was out and about, generally celebrating. Naturally, then, the Greenway, which is usually crowded on days of good weather, was packed! Going south, on the stretch between the abovementioned courts and the water treatment plant, with my wife riding behind me to witness my mad skillz, a loose soccerball was bouncing along my path. A sharp "YO!" to the guy trying to chase it down stopped him in his tracks. I kept pedaling along but reached out with my left hand to the ball that had just crossed in front of me, and one-touch bounce-passed it behind the bike to him.

There you have it, my shining moment where I was able to combine my two favorite sports. Oh and to try to keep it commute relevant, has anybody had anything wacky like that happen on a commute?!?

doubles as a way to let a car driver know when they passed abit too close, or upset you for some reason

A stray ped once crossed my path so I kicked him back to the curb.

Hmmm, perhaps I can carry a lasso - and since I like horse back riding too, when the hill gets too be too much, lasso a cow and spook it up the hill...

Nah, not a good idea.

Maybe not but I think it'd fun to watch ...
